Re: Titan 3.35.04 radio

im holding off on flashing. Im sticking with the 3.37 radio and gpstest rom for now.

i dont personally feel redoing the whole phone for 2 hours is worth flashing the mogul radio and a hybrid rom. i dont feel it will solve many of the little issues people are seeing with their gps honestly. right now as i described gps is working how it should.

Google Maps and Windows Live Search both cache your last location. As soon as gmaps sees your GPS active, it will then go to the last known location. If that happens to be where you are at, you might THINK it picked you up, but it didn't. It won't say where you are at until it actually starts getting data from the satellites (numbers show up in parantheses.) I'm convinced the phone is NEVER using aGPS in its current state with the old gpstest rom. It may have changed with the newer one, but I'm not willing to test it out at this point as I really don't want to mess around with an extremely customized ROM that may or may not be any improvement over what we currently have.

Re: Titan 3.35.04 radio

convinced or not, a-gps is there. I just soft reset, then cleared out google maps (reset back to stock in its options) all the cache cleared etc, and clicked use gps with nothing else running and a-gps got me in about 5 seconds and about 10 ft from where i am saying acquiring (0) meaning there was no real gps yet or satellite lock. A-gps is surely active in gpstest 2.1, which im using, if you did the registry edits. It is surely not caching.

when you start google/live/gps viewer/etc you are initiating a cold start, meaning the gps unit was previously off. This will take avg 1-3 min to get a lock. Now you use your gps and then close google/live/viewer/etc down to conserve your battery. You are cutting the gps "data stream" from the satellites. There will be no gps data present on the phone at all left. Thus, next time you start google/live/viewer, you will be doing ANOTHER cold start meaning and 1-3 avg min lock.

This is how gps on our phones works. This is not a dedicated gps unit that you leave constantly on that can immediately be accessed or a bluetooth receiver you always leave plugged in and on. The gps radio is constantly being turned on and off, meaning waits for locks every time.

So unless you constantly leave google or the viewer open, killing your battery, an instant lock cannot be expected
This is not entirely true. Granted we are turning the gps unit on and off. But the phone does store the last known location of the satellites. If it turns on and these are a match or darn close it is easier to lock onto the satellites. Of this info is out dated then you have to start from scratch. This is where the 8 hours comes into play. In 8 hours the satellites have moved to the point that the data you last had is of no value to you anymore.

I agree with SprintTouch08. I've had Google Maps show me a mile or so away from where I actually am, and I never used Google Maps at that location, so it wasn't cached, I believe that was aGPS working.

Also, while driving home I was using Google Maps and I turned it off about 5 miles from home. Then when I started it at home the map it showed was where I turned it off at, then when I clicked on Use GPS, within 10 seconds I had a blue dot near my house, then after a few minutes it showed satellites with my exact location.

I thought the same thing... but do the same test. But drive 5 miles away before you turn it back on. It will load up a map of the last known location, and it will not move until the number of satellites reads more than 0.

Re: Titan 3.35.04 radio

I've noticed if you use GPS programs that use Microsoft Intermediate driver, the gps lock seems to be faster, for example with Garmin Mobile xt newest version. Google and other programs that use the com port settings instead sometimes lock quickly sometimes they don't. A few times left my phone on for a while without a GPS lock. After words if I just started Chartcross GPS test, and as soon as the message "GPS Starting Up" displayed, I would close the program and start Google, or Live Search which then found my position shortly after.

I was a avid user of TomTom 6, but because of the GPS priming issue I switched to Garmin's mobile xt. I able to lock onto a GPS signal pretty quickly without priming it either.

You are using the new rom with the new radio though, right? It may be working in that version... but in gpstest rom it is not using agps at all from my experience. Also, did the number of satellites read > 0 when it moved to your actual location?

If I remember correctly, it performed the same with the gpstest ROM too.

When I first start it, it'll show a map of the last location. Then I will click on Use GPS and I'll get a blue dot near my current location but the sats still shows 0. Then after a couple minutes it'll read 3-5 sats and the blue dot will be more accurate.

I've had my GPSMode set to 4 on both ROMs as well...if it matters.

So, is it 100% stable and quick working with the new rom, or are you still having times where it takes several minutes to connect?
