Yes, and you can use Dot Freds Taskmanager to see if the gps drivers, and services were started, or you might have to manually start them.

Thanks! I checked the tasks, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Any more clues for me?

Edit: I take that back. Under the services tab I see the GpsDaemonService.dll running. Gonna play a little more and see what happens.

Edit 2: Guys, I just love to edit in case you haven't noticed yet... So I also just found that the service is stopped. When I choose to start, it says:
Title: "Service Start Error"
Window Content: "The system cannot find the file specified."

Under devices, there is one called 'gps1' that when i choose to load, i get the same error.

hgray,

Do you see the GPS drivers loaded under the drivers tab?

This is starting to seem like it is going to be the best day since the device was released... Whichever day it ends up being that this all becomes available...

Woah, weird... all the posts just showed up. Weird cache I guess. Updating this post now.

mardukeme: I don't see a 'drivers' tab on the task manager. Under the 'services' tab, the gps service points to the GpsDaemonService.dll

I have v3 of the task manager.

BTW, armus... I can't install google maps. I got it to work with a sprite backup, but too many other things were crashing, so I just got my contacts and left the rest alone.

hgray,

Sorry I bricked my phone, so I'm trying to recall it from memory, the tab should be called "Device Manager"

Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I had to step out for a bit. Thanks for the help though! Your phone is down, but you're still in the game!

So, there is no "Device Manager", but there is just a tab called Devices.

Things are named:
$device\xxx(xxx
and the column next to it is the status of the device. Sound right?

So, I looked again and I missed it the first time, but there is a device called "GPD0". It is running the gpsid_qct.dll.
I was able to load the device.

There is another device that looks relative called "GPS1". It runs viser_gps.dll.
I can't load it.

The only other thing I saw that was relative was the service (under the services tab) "GPC1". It runs GpsDaemonService.dll.
I cannot start it.

I also just noticed that GPSID_QCT.DLL is linked to COM4, so I am gonna try and see what I can get out of that with live search or system prefs, because I believe you can select a com port for an external gps. Maybe this will trick it into working. :-/

@ wnbowman: make sure you *228 your phone and press 3. (htc's instructions)
My phone kept flashing the roaming triangle too. Technically I'm out of my home area, but I just change the SID back when I go from Clemson to Charleston.
