For those of you having a hard time getting GPS to lock onto a satellite, try this:

How-To Get GPS Working Everytime:
- Download Holux GPS Viewer (free)
- Run that program before you run any other GPS program
- Set it to Com4 and click Open
- Be near a window to get a fast lock on GPS (mine still works inside my house though)
- When you start to see what looks like lat/long in the display minimize it (don't close it)
- Now run Google Maps (or any other app) and set it to Com4 (or automatic should work too)
- It should pickup GPS right away since the GPS Viewer already has the locks
- Remember to close the Holux GPS Viewer when you're done or it'll constantly use GPS and drain your battery!

Holy crap. that worked perfect!!! picked up on satellites almost immediately!! thanks so much! Do you have to keep it running or can you close it after google maps or whatever is locked in??

And, do you have to run it everytime you want to start gps??

I still haven't had a fix yet and it's been running for over 10 minutes.

It might be better to run it everytime first to get a lock but that depends if you want to speed things up for Google Maps or not.

No it looks like a miniature of the QuickGPS icon, well I did a soft reset and now its gone, so i have no clue what it was. It wasnt the roaming triangle because this as to the left of the EV icon, and it did nothing when I pressed it.

Can someone give me a link where to download the Holux GPS viewer, I tried goole and didnt gind it. Thanks

I haven't tried closing it while Google Maps is running, I just leave it running in the background until I'm done using GPS, then I'll go close it.

I just started using it, but I've been starting it anytime I need to use GPS.

If you search this site for GPSToggle (by BAF I think it was), it'll install a Today Screen toggle to turn on and off GPS. I haven't really tried it, but I think that works in the same way as the GPS Viewer, but it stays on the Today Screen.

I haven't noticed that but I did notice the GPS icon in the phone app.

That would be sweet, maybe someone can develop a cab for that.

No Problem!

EDIT: Finally! Holux GPS Viewer status is now 'Acquiring: 3D' and GPS is active in Google Maps! (Running JD's gpstest2.1 ROM). Google Maps works fine for me with Holux GPS Viewer closed after I have gotten a fix. I can then close Gmaps and open it again and it gets a lock right away. It is still off by 100 feet compared to being exactly on the dot using my Kaiser.

after some testing last night driving around the gps indeed acts like triangulation rather than real onboard gps or bt gps. It has the weird bobbing around, and "catch up" when going around 40+ mph.

i wonder if we can change the baud rate??
