Thanks but it just kinda kicked in after like 15 mins and 3 soft-resets as you can probably tell from my siggy.

Ok the GPS is a no go for me. I tried the Alltel ROM with the files and JD's, Rev A worked perfectly on both but neither could start the GPS, Google Maps searched for about 15min, kept telling me that it was unable to find satellites, I was outside. I used GPS test and this is what I keep seeing ..

HDOP 0.00 | FIX 1D
-------------------------
GPS Starting up
-------------------------

And neither Live search nor Google maps can find it. Google maps actually showed that I am just off the coast of Ghana. I used the QuickGPS cab and updated it, and still nada ](*,)

Don't use GPS test. It locks up the GPS receiver and it won't lock onto any new satellites. Uninstall GPS test and soft reset the Touch. Load up Google Maps, select Use GPS, and wait for the blinking dot to pinpoint your location.

Ok I uninstalled GPS Test and did a soft reset, I now have an icon next to the "EV", its a satellite pointing up.

Google maps is currently searching but still flashes me next to Ghana, it is cloudy here today so maybe it'll take longer. Thanks dude.

I never heard of a satellite in the top bar, I've never seen it. Are you sure its not the roaming triangle?

LOL same here. It's still 'Seeking GPS satelites (0)' and I'm on the equator line right below Ghana. I'm guessing this radio isn't working well for GPS. I remember having better GPS reception using different radios on my Kaiser.

I also noticed that there is no Comm Mgr link in Start Menu\Programs on Alltel and JD's ROMs. That's something new to me.

For those of you having a hard time getting GPS to lock onto a satellite, try this:

How-To Get GPS Working Everytime:
- Download Holux GPS Viewer (free)
- Run that program before you run any other GPS program
- Set it to Com4 and click Open
- Be near a window to get a fast lock on GPS (mine still works inside my house though)
- When you start to see what looks like lat/long in the display minimize it (don't close it)
- Now run Google Maps (or any other app) and set it to Com4 (or automatic should work too)
- It should pickup GPS right away since the GPS Viewer already has the locks
- Remember to close the Holux GPS Viewer when you're done or it'll constantly use GPS and drain your battery!

why does it need to connect the internet once i open Holux GPS viewer or any other GPS programs like ozi and garmin? is there a way to disable that?

I'm always connected to the internet anyway since I use an Exchange server, but my connection doesn't become active when using the GPS viewer.

Garmin, Telenav, Google Maps, Live Search all use the internet to download maps, so you're gonna use the internet with any of those programs.

My assumption is that the program attempts to connect to the internet because it wants to download map images and check for updates.

thanks for the reply dude.... for me internet is a bit expensive to have on all the time... plus garmin doesn't need internet unless you are going to use the online services.. otherwise it uses the map file installed.. also ozi as well..

thanks anyways :D
