You MUST be:
- Unlocked with the 2.31 unlocker,
- Upgraded your RADIO by flashing RUU_PPST_Vogue_SPRINT_WWE_3.03.651.2_Radio_3.42.30 _AM_NV_2.04_Ship.exe

Re: Cook your own Custom Touch ROM

AWESOME! A Vogue Kitchen. This is what I've been looking for!

But... small problem. I tried to use OMJ's new ROM /w UC that was recently released and pkgtool (as part of prepit.bat) crashes. No sure what might be causing that. No other error messages that I could see. Standard WinXP sp2.

When I try to run the next step, "buildos", I get the error "external componant has thrown an exception", and buildos states: "Error, last status: 'Creating initflashfiles.dat...'".

Then, I run prepit.bat again and it works. The crashing seems to be random.

I haven't tried it on any other roms yet, because I just got the new OMJ and the kitchen tonight.

Great stuff though! I'm so psyched about customizing my own ROM!

Send OMJ a Private Message and ask if the rom you are trying to use can be decomposed / decompiled with Vogue_Kitchen_Tools.rar. Make sure that you specifically link to the rom that you are trying to use. He may have switched to a different set (version / method) of tools.

Best regards,
-boggsie

Re: Cook your own Custom Touch ROM

Okay, I'm cooking with gas... (had Taco Bell late last night)... and I'm curious about the "SD customizations" that run after the OMJ ROM flash. What's that about? Is it for things that can't be cooked in to the ROM? If so, I want some! Can I install the EXE apps that I have? Like Pocket Informant and Calligrapher? What else can I do with it?

Pocket Informant and Calligrapher are .exe from your desktop? They can be included, but you need to intercept the .cab file on your desktop or on your device...When you install them, wait until your device prompts you to install to memory or storage card. Then search your device w/total commander and copy the .cab file to say \my documents...

"SD Customizations" are for those folks that use a custom rom. This lets you install programs via .cab that you use.

Ummm, thanks again. I think you told me that yesterday as well. I shall give it a try.

I guess I was just too funny. When I said I was "cooking with gas" I meant I am cooking my own ROM based on OMJ's. NOW can I get into the super-secret SD Customizations club? Haven't you written a tutorial for that yet man?

I got all the CAB files intercepted and they all work!
It was a lot easier than I thought. Each CAB is copied temporarily to \Windows\AppMgr\Install on the device during the EXE install.

Makes it a breeze to re-install from an SD Card! Just got to re-enter all the registration codes. Maybe THAT is a job for a backup program.

Don't see much point in turning all the purchased programs into OEM's though. The only one I've got to work on is VisualGPS.

Re: Cook your own Custom Touch ROM

Well I did it. I couldn't sleep till i tried. I cooked my first ROM. Nothing fancy. Just added a few things, deleted a few things, and made some registry changes. But it worked!

Now that's over I can start getting fancy! Thanks rstoyguy!
