Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
nope
pre will not work on SERO ...most of any androyd and any other OS other then win wont work ..except for the older phones .. |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Sprint took off the SERO provisioning options for other os and newer models. This is to reduce the SERO population, once they are able to switch you over to the expensive plans, you have more phone options. I think finally they will stop the provisioning support for the newer WinMo phones.
Hope they don't start it with HD2(if it comes to sprint) :-) |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Well my trip to the sprint store didn't go well. I took my 3rd refurb with the non responsive touchscreen screen in, and they tell me it has liquid damage . wtf? i thought the dude was kidding. Nope, no joke. The guy was pretty cool about it, saying he would still give me $78 for it as a trade-in. He said not all the liquid indicators were activated. Seems a little fishy though. partial luiqid damage, but theyll still give me $ as a trade? Not sure what to do. go through asurion, or just buy the tp2 for $160.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Anyone have any luck with a TP to TP2 swap in the Atlanta area? My wife's TP is doing all kinds of crazy stuff, and on mine the chrome is peeling off badly and the screen doesn't rotate half the time when I slide it open. I'd love to do this with as little hassle as possible, and maybe even get phones that work!

Sprint saying the TP2 is not compatable with SERO is sad. I don't know if they are just flat out lying or just don't know enough- both options are pretty bad for Sprint. Either they hire liars or misinform their own employees... |

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
This is different so if I bought a palm pre from ebay nothing with sprint could i activate it on a sero line?
|
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
TOTALLY wrong place to ask that question, seriously... however i will try to answer, if the palm pre is SPRINT branded and CLEAN, i think you can (dont quote, as i dont remember if the pre is one that required a special data plan) but not sure about the sero specifically
back to the topic, I have called and called, its on backorder like crazy, going to different stores isnt going to help you at the moment, i just call the support line once a day or once every other day and ask if the touch pro 2 is in stock, its been backorderd for the past week+ i have tried (different for total-protection as their stock is separate from sprint) NOW if someone can post here when they are no longer backorderd! OR! asuerion no longer has any TP's to send out then im sure those of us with TRUE TP issues (my next will be my 6th one unless i get the TP2, 3keyboards, 1screen, 2overheat+RANDOMshutoff) can get ourself's a TP2 keep in mind i personally wouldnt mind keeping the TP except for the fact that it never seems to last more then a month before it breaks and i take SUPREME care of my tech (the invizishield guys will no longer replace my phoneshield, i have a hard shell as well and i have stretched the ouch to fit the phone+hardcase inside)... Mogul > TP for me... i know others had worse luck with the mogul but i only ever had 2 replacements for the Mogul... the screen and its huge white spots... (on a note... a piece of electrical tape on my 3rd to make sure this didnt happen, between the screen and the circuits that lay on the back prevented my 3rd from having the huge white spot on the screen as well!) Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Ok guys, here is another update... As you might remember my local store (3rd party repair center) promised me a TP2 since a month ago, to then deny that it ever happened. Well, today I walked in to a REAL Sprint Store (just 5 minutes away from my local store!), explained the issues with the phone, and the tech immediately told me that the Touch Pro is known by Sprint to be a "defective handset" and that I "must" upgrade to a TP2, Blackberry, or some other non-touch HTC phone (he didn't even give me the option of a regular Touch Pro). I chose the TP2 expecting the usual "out of stock" once he checked... but he put the order through with no issues, and told me the store will receive the replacement after the holidays for me to come and pick up. He also gave a printed Sprint receipt showing the Touch Pro 2 as a replacement and a case number. :toothy7:
Now I DO think that it actually makes a difference which store you go to. I saw with my own eyes when my local 3rd party store showed me the out of stock message for all level 4 and 5 replacements for the TP2. I guess that real Sprint stores can order from a different source, maybe the retail one? Will post back once I get the actual phone next week! :D |

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Had an interesting experience in a repair center today. I was there requesting my third repair/exchange within a month. First one dead keyboard, second one dead screen, third one two days later dead keyboard. The lady I brought it to told me she wants to get me out of this phone and into something better like a Pro2 (I got my hopes up there for a second), but that they are not authorized at store level to swap a phone out with something else. She asked if it was alright if she would call customer service and I explain to them the problems I was having, let them know I am in a corporate store at them moment and they are requesting the Pro to be switched to a different device. I told her that would be fine.
So she picked up the stores phone, dialed a number, and then asked for advanced exchange (I think this is what we know as retentions) and then gave me the phone. I sat there listening to crappy hold music for about 20 minutes. Finally someone answered, asked for phone # and explanation of the problem with the phone. I also told her that I was currently in a store and that they requested for me to call as they are not authorized to switch to a different type of device. She then asked me what type of phone I wanted to switch to. But before I got a chance to answer, she said the Pro2 is the newer model similar to what I have. I told her thats what I wanted. She then asked to speak to the person in the store that was helping me. All she said was "no", "no", "ok, thank you", and handed the phone back to me. I assume the rep on the phone asked if they have the Pro2 in stock, but not sure. She then told me that she was creating an order for me for a Pro2 and I should have it in a couple of business days - think thats gonna be about five days right now with the holiday. So, I'll see what I get when I get it. Hopefully it works out better than the TP. |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
way to reply to my own post from before!
the stock they get the TP2 from is the same! ANYWAY, so about 2 hours after i made the post above i called, calmly explained my problem to the first person i talked to, then got xferd to the adv department as talked about by the other guy who replied below me, and while talking to the kind lady i was told i got lucky because their was 16 in stock at the end of the call (BE NICE YELLING WILL GET YOU NOWHERE) she said their was now only 9, so NO it doesn't really matter what store (unless the people are aholes) for stock but when it happens! my TP2 is on its way! |

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
I have started down this road. Here's my summary so far:
1) Went to Sprint ASC (not corp), they said that the Touch Pro was being swapped out for other phones, because it was a buggy POS. I kinda got my hopes up and told them some of my issues. Those being overheating and failure to charge/phone dying while plugged up when on a call, random lockups, getting voicemails with no alerts of missed calls, texts being sent when it says they aren't, not being able to answer calls sometimes... you know, the usual stuff you expect on a Touch Pro. The guy was ready to help me, but he pointed to a crack on the chrome bezel of my phone. He said since the chrome was damaged, I'd have to go through Asurion and pay the deductable for physical damage. He said he I could get a TP from them, which would of course have the same issues, then come swap it out for a different phone at his store. I didn't make the argument that the chrome was of poor quality and that it would eventually crack with normal wear and tear. (I have had this TP for just over a year.) I had my friend in the store with me who also has a TP, and his chrome is cracked in the same place. heh. Anyway, I asked what phones I could swap it for, if I got another buggy one from Asurion... of course he offered me the Snap and a Treo. He said "just whatever we have in stock." He assured me I wouldn't be downgraded. Then another customer with a TP he was getting serviced started talking about the TP2. So I ask the guy, "what about the TP2?" He said the TP2 was NOT one of the phones he could swap the TP for. Seeing a dead end at this point, I didn't press the issue and left the store. 2) Disgruntled, I called *2, and expressed my frustration that my normal wear and tear was being considered physical damage. The first CSR basically told me "too bad", and wouldn't let me talk to a manager, and hung up on me. But he did give me a number to "returns", which was obviously the wrong department. But I called anyway, and the nice fellow there sent me to tech support. I told the tech support guy my story, and he said his computer was telling him I had to go to a store, but he was going to override that, and do an Advanced Exchange. I told him I heard there was a list of phones I could swap with, and he said that was wrong and put me on hold to set up the order. Well, a minute later he came back and said he'd never seen this before, but in fact there WAS a list of other phone to choose from. The same shitty ones: the snap, the treo, etc. Then he said something like "wait, I think the TP2 should be on here" and put me on hold again. Then he came back and said no, the TP2 wasn't eligible for a swap out, and that he'd send me a replacement TP. Again, not wanting to press my luck, I decided to get the refurb TP for free, which at least will be free of any scratches or cracks on the chrome. It also gives me another avenue to pursue when I am offered ANOTHER replacement TP for the same issues. Gonna play with this one a few days. I am pretty sure it's going to be as buggy as the last one, and I wouldn't be surprised if the screen or keyboard doesn't go out. The screen already went wonky on me once, but a soft reset fixed it. If that doesn't pan out, I'll hit the store up again, armed with "this is my third TP! I need something else!" argument. Knowing the only comparable replacement is a TP2. The snap is a JOKE! Anyway, for anyone collecting info, I am in Nashville, and I went to the store on Donelson Pike. Cool guys, but they don't seem to wanna come off a TP2. There are about 4 other ASC's in the area, and I'll go to them all before giving up. :D |

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
I agree with not mentioning the list but in the case of not bringing up the TP2, unless you want about 20 or 30 TPs you might press the fact that it is the MODEL and that only another comparable model will do.
I am to the point that even tho the 'screen' will not let you, we need to talk to someone who can let it be done. |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Hey guys, just got a new TP2!
I've never had my touch pro replaced and have had it for about a year. I'm also on the SERO plan. I called the service number and talked to them. I told them I was getting dropped calls in my house when I still had bars and that when I tried to do full charges (when the battery was below 30-40%) the phone would lock up and a few soft resets / taking the battery out would fix it, but sometimes it has stayed locked up for over an hour. They transferred me to tech support, I repeated what I said, and the lady tried talking me into getting a new phone since the touch pro has been flagged as a defective device. I was offered the TP2 and the Pre (the lady was suprised, she said they were taken off the list until recently) and I asked for the TP2. It'll be here on Monday. This quells a few rumors. SERO customers can get their phones replaced. First time TP replacements can happen. TP2 is definately one of the phones offered to replace the TP. |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Yeah, I'm a SERO customer and I got my TP exchanged for a TP2.
|
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
We'll i caved in, got rid of my grandfathered plan and accepted a Samsung Moment for my Touch Pro replacement. Short Review: The Moment is incomparable to the Touch Pro and I'm sensing that Android is incomparable to Windows Mobile. The ease of use is astounding on this device and I have not yet had one GPS issue, one freeze, one missed call, overheat issue or keyboard glitch. Now, I've only had it for 2 days, but the last refurb TP that I had was being hard and soft reset on a daily basis.
Good luck to all who are suffering with faulty TPs. I don't know why I was given the android options, but I'm happy I was. |

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
My touch pro has given me so much issue and it had been replaced multiple times. So I decided to go to another different sprint store, and see what they will do for me. Initially they told me that they would replace it with the Pre, and some other BS phones. I said NO...and that I need a phone with windows mobile and full slide out keyboard. The rep said "I don't know what to do, those are the only phones we can offer."
So I told them that since my contract is over, I would have to consider some other phones from sprint and other companies and make a decision. I left the store, but I came back couple of minutes later and innocently asked for the touch pro II pretending that I only found out about the phone just now. The reps looked at each other and said that the TP2 has been out of stock for some time now, and I told them that I could call back periodically and they finally said fine. Today I call back, the rep who I spoke with had no idea and doesn't remember our conversation. So, I explain everything again and she puts on hold and orders me TP2!!! But, I asked her if it was a new one and she said it's a reconditioned one. WTH? How the heck do they already have reconditioned TP2? Didn't most of you guys get a NIB TP2? Is their a chance that I might still get a NIB TP2 (since sprint may not even have any refurbished TP2 or at least I hope they don't)? |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Well here is how my day dealing with sprint has gone so far. First I go to the sprint chat and explain that I received a refurb through advanced exchange and it is defective (overheats, won't charge, dropped calls, ect) and I am told to call tech support and they will be able to do something.
So I call tech support and they tell me i have to go to the sprint store. then I ask if they could do an exchange over the phone and the rep said no because too many people have been exchanging their phones without having problems so according to her the new policy is they have to do the exchanges in a store (goes to show no two sprint reps will give you the same answer to a question). The rep said she will put a note on my account. What good that will do I have no idea. So I guess I will be taking a hour drive one way to get to a sprint store. I would have been happy with a working touch pro but since I can't get that I will be pushing for a touch pro 2. I just hope it isn't a waste of my time.](*,) |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Well I'm in shock!! After calling either stores or CS at least 3 times a week for about a month I called this morning and the nice lady ordered me a TP2 within about 2 minutes of answering the phone. It's a little surreal right now and I'm trying VERY hard not to get excited, since I'm actually expecting to get a TP, instead of a TP2. All I received is an E-ticket confirmation, with no specifics, so I'll believe this when I see it. Hopefully the saga ends for me, but that was too easy (just today's call, not overall) so watch this space for an update when I receive the phone. I hope that it will be good news that I received a TP2.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
The keyboard on my latest TP has finally started acting up (YESSSS, this one took like 3 months, a new record). I'm only glad to have it act up so I can complain till I get something else. I'm going to start the calls today. I was going to hold out in hopes of an HD2, or an Android phone... but it's time to stick to my guns I guess. A friend just got a Droid - and it's nice.
Anyway, I'll post with my success and what goes on. All the employees in the Sprint store here know me by first name because I am in there with dead TP's so much. They feel bad for me, but can't do anything for me because it's not corporate - they don't stock the TP2 at all. I've never abused any of them, in fact, this is the only one that's been "abused," it's also my first refurb. I had it in my hand longboarding, hit a stone while I was reading a text and went flying off and the corner of the phone hit the concrete, chipping up the chrome a little. I've been hoping for a long time that this phone would die - even considered opening it up and unplugging the keyboard a little... I'm just so very sick of the thing. The home key on this one is seriously high, it gets caught on my pocket all of the time and it's ripping the fabric underneath it. |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Ok, time for me to chime in....This will shock you all
History:
So I go in, the say "1 hour and we will fix your phone". I come back in a hour, screen works! W00T!!! Go to the car, try to reply to an e-mail, no KB. Turn around, back into store, give phone back to tech. They say they must order parts/refurb. I said, "but the guy on the phone said I could get a different phone?" pull out the lists from pocket (BB tour, HTC Snap, Treo Pro, HTC TP2). "No can do on tp2" she says... I am like but they are all downgrades!!! Finally she calls manager, get approval, tp2 will be here Wednesday. Yes, I asked for a tp2, mentioned the wel replacement program, got it. I was having legitimate problems...I pleaded, but stayed firm. I didn't want to keep coming back to store, I didnb't want a phone without TF3D, VGA, sliding KB, WinMo. Yes I would be happy with TP1 that worked....but it was not meant to be. |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
I just got off the phone with Sprint. The lady at first offered to replace my phone with a Touch Pro 2, and when she went to process it, it was out of stock. She asked her "manager" what else we could do, and he said that the phone was out of stock, and they werent able to offer the Touch Pro 2 as replacements and wont be for quite some time.
They did try to re-offer the Snap, Blackberry, Palm Pre or another Touch Pro.. After getting my hopes up and telling me the TP2 was an option at first...then promptly bursting my bubble with the OOS bull. She made a note on the account for me to visit a store, so I am trying that next. Time to drive a good 1.5 hours to the nearest sprint store. :( |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Looks like my replacement phone shipped with next day air. Their website shows that they're expecting a TP back from me, but "replacement phone model" has not been filled in. They sure know how to keep me in suspense. UPS tracking shows 0.8 lb weight, but that doesn't help me any since I don't know the weight of a TP2 and I'd guess that it's an estimated weight. I guess I'll find out when it gets here.
Edit: I just checked the UPS tracking info from the last refurb TP that I was sent and the weight was 0.4lb - so it appears that I seemed to have been sent something else this time. Hopefully it's not a BNIB TP, where the manuals and charger account for the extra weight. It's going to be a slow weekend until monday's delivery. |

well giving an update. i called my nearest corp store, talked to a lady tech, explained the whole story. asked her what she could do before i drove down there. she was nice and reviewed my notes, came back about 3 minutes later and said, i can switch you into a TP2. she left a note on my account, i drove to the store, and they swapped me! No questions asked!. they brought out a new in box unit and transfered all my data to it. while i was checking out the goodies in the box. Im posting this on my new TP2 sitting at my table at Olive Garden :) |
