unlock GPS on Alltel Touch Pro Phone

i am new on Alltel Touch Pro Phone. I am wondering what do i need to unlock GPS from the phone.

do i only need custom rom on this sites? anything else i need to unlock the GPS from the phone.

install amazeGPS and see if it runs. it does require a data connection but if you dont have a data plan use wifi just to see if it will find your location. make sure you have location set to ON and not 911 only. also, see if you can find HTCGPS tools and try to run it. setting for that are com 4, baud 4800, then under function, turn on cold start and turn on stress. then click open port and let it run.

I have an Alltel Touch Pro. Go to Start, Settings, Phone, the Services Tab, and select Location Settings, hit Get Settings.. then look at it and be sure the option is set to "ON" and not "OFF".

Then go to Start, Settings, System Tab, External GPS, and make sure its assigned a COM port (usually COM4).

Then hit the Access Tab, and make sure "Manage GPS Automatically" is checkmarked.

Make sure those three options are correct and it should work fine. Usually it works out of the box but my first one that I got did not and I had to fiddle with it to make it work.

Still on Alltel for now. The newer Alltel rom 2.01.671.1 has gps locked. Installed Alltel Nav, Google Maps etc all work again. Removed Alltel Nav, after reboot all other gps apps failed to work. Reinstalled, all are working again. Kinda hoped buying their Nav for one month might unlock it and I could go on about my work. Going to TP2 with VZW soon. Not to hijack thread, but vzw's plan prices will pay for the 2 new tp2's (we have 5 phones, 2 are tp/lines).

It's the new Alltel radio causing GPS issues. Get rid of the 1.12.20F radio and go with the older Alltel radio or one of the Verizon or Sprint radios and you'll get your GPS back on the new rom.

I installed the newest VZ radio yesterday as shortly after the merger my signal strength was never more than 10%. Now the worst is 30% and lots of places 60-100%. Tried a bunch of radios.
Thanks for that tip. I will remove A Nav and post back results.

Hm. I'm currently using the new Alltel radio with the Energy ROM and haven't had a problem with it. Didn't know such a change was made.
