Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

Signal is ok. And I used it for longer than 2 hours at a time. Keeping the TP cool is crucial to charging batty. Mine can clime up from 60% to a 100 while tethering constantely. Keep in mind ,TP kb is open and under a fan.

Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

I did notice that if you do not have the NueFastCharge app the phone will use power faster than it can charge. With Fast Charge enabled it can charge faster then the drain (usually drains 600-700mah under heavy load while charging is 400ish woFC and 900ish WFC.) I thought this is what killed one of my batteries but I think it was more just heat related then charging related.

The warning from nueFastCharge about overloading the USB port and possibly damage your phone is not real or much of a concern i guess? That's the reason i didn't enable it, but then again if not much of an issue, i could enable it since it would help a lot in my situation with low signal.

I really havent seen an issue with the fastcharge. So far both a laptop and desktop usb have yet to fry (have seen one fry on a clients computer but have yet to figure out why. (its an old P4 1.8 P4T533-C board with RDRam.)

Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

Well I was messing around with an aluminum intel cooler untill I realized I had a perfect copper base from an old Thermaltake Water Cooling kit lying around. Threw that in there and what do you know.... It still gets hot lol. I Really need to find a way to get some airflow through this mount. The copper works great to take heat away from the phone but with nowhere to go it just heats up like the phone.

If you rig up an adaptor to only crank out .5A at 5V DC. A 20 ohm resistor and a 2:1 transformer hooked up in series will be all you will need to transform the DC chager into the equivelent voltage and amerage output by a USB port. (be sure to insulate yourself if you do it, and attach it to the positive lead just before the connector).
I was thinking this too. Then you could disable charging from the PC while USB connected (batt settings). I imagine that you can find a preassembled converter to accomplish this for low voltage equipment that use small USB connectors in the car. The regular small USB connector works in place of the HTC specific adapter so really the trick only lies in converting the DC to plug into. Once the TP thinks it is hooked to a PC USB current then your gold.

Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

Now that I see the pic, I would ask...how are you afixing the heatsink? I'm guessing that the front cover of the mount is soft plastic so you can use touch? I would be worried about condensation if you are riding and the weather temp changes. It seems like you need to make some sort of sheilded opening so the water still stays out. Wow, good issue to ponder.

Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

Ya I wouldn't think I would have a moisture issue inside the case since the heat is so high as well as it being almost completely watertight.. But I might drill out a few holes in the bottom of the mount and also clear the holes through the foam pad so it could at least vent a little heat. the problem is heat rises and I have no way of getting airflow through it without causing it to become prone to moisture and make the mount useless for those wet rides.. If only the mount was metal itself lol. The heatsink just sits on that foam pad there and when you put the phone in there and shut the cover the soft rubber top presses the phone tightly in keeping it from moving around while still allowing touch useage. It works quite well at that and though it still got hot the heatsink did allow about 30min more charging time before it got hot enough to stop charging. Maybe while riding it will blow just enough air past it to stay cool. I might have to just put this mount on in the winter and get a basic clamping mount for the summer...

Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

What about just taking the battery out? It still powers on when it's plugged in w/o the battery... then it definitely can't charge the battery either.

edit: hmmm... just tried it again and it shut off. That's really weird cause I could have sworn I've flashed it w/o the battery while plugged into the PC. Give it a try anyways and see if it stays powered on for you.
