Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

So I guess I have to find a way to either vent the mount or build some sort of heatsink so I can vent some heat somehow through the mount. If it ain't one thing its another.

I know those nuerom tools won't work for me. The phone definitly gets way hotter than it should and disabling any sort of safety will only cause it to blow up lol. I looked at the NuePower status of the battery on the way home and it was showing the battery at 50C so I really need to fix the cooling problem before I am going to get what I want out of this mount. Possibly just loading up the card with music would work but I just love my internet radio while riding around.

If you rig up an adaptor to only crank out .5A at 5V DC. A 20 ohm resistor and a 2:1 transformer hooked up in series will be all you will need to transform the DC chager into the equivelent voltage and amerage output by a USB port. (be sure to insulate yourself if you do it, and attach it to the positive lead just before the connector).

Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

so why do you need to have it plugged into the charger then? you just don't want it to be charging when plugged in, but then what's the point of having it plugged in? I must be missing something...

Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

Ya Tried the whole disable charging while connected to usb via PC and all that does is disable charging completely making it run on battery.... So were still at square 1. Looks like its time to get creative with the mount. Cutting the foam, making aluminum plates, etc... I like the TP2 has vents on its cover, i just wish ours was made out of really thin aluminum or something similar.

Re: Any way to disable charging while the phone is on external power?

Hmm. I may have a solution to my problems.. I am not 100% sure how well its going to work but I have a bunch of Intel Stock CPU coolers that could possibly be modified to act as complete Touch Pro Heatsinks inside my mount. I will need to shave off the sides a bit to get it to fit as well as remove the arms that hold on the plastic pushpins.... but it might just work. As long as it can vent the heat in some way or at least spread it out enough that it really doesn't get that hot. Pics to come...

I think you are right about this one. I installed nuebattery and monitor my phone. I get somewhat low signal at my home (about 1-2 bars) and while i am tethering, or talk for a long time, phone would stop charging due to overheating. I put it on an ice bag to chill it down and this would allows it to keep charging but the battery still gets run down, abeit a lot slower. nuebattery shows discharge current meter being higher than the charge current.

The charge current does not ever get above 600mA, ? limitation of the USB port?

So even if you cool the phone so that it never overheat, but if you have low signal, the battery will still eventually run out if the charge current does not exceed the discharge current.

I didnt monitor my TP by any mean but can tell you that occasionally when tethering, and while my TP is under a small fan as usual when doing so, it will charge up to 100% and stay there.
At least for house use, a fan takes care of the overheating problem 100%.

I suspect your signal must be fairly good and/or you are not talking/doing sustained downloading long enough (at least continously for 45 minutes). The key thing about all of this and also battery life is how good your signal...
