Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
Got rid of the touch pro for a palm pre. What a pile of poop the touch pro has been. I am a firm believer that the reason all these roms exist is to polish a turd and we know that can not be done. Thanks for all the hard work of the cooks, good luck with the polishing. See you in the pre section.

Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
Although the touch pro is a good device, winmo needs serious work (and I'm not talking about a coverup interface) so I felt the same way you do when I got my palm pre as well.... I'll see what wm7 has in store in the future to give it another chance (that is if webOS isn't totally killer by that time on the pace palm and webOS developers are pacing)
Ps. This thread shouuld be moved btw |

Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
I currently have a Diamond and a Pre. I gave my wife my TP and I got the Pre. I agree that in many ways the Pre is better, but there are also several things that annoy me about it and drive me back to using my Diamond every now and then.
1) I like the level of detail I can have on one home screen of my Diamond. The Pre gives me a wallpaper and 5 shortcuts. The form is boring and I could go for more function. 2) I don't like the keyboard. It's miserable to type on and I am way faster on my Diamond with TouchPal and faster still on my wife's TP. In addition, the lack of arrows to move the cursor make it a pain to go back and make a change or correction. 3) When I needed to find an old email in my outlook accout yesterday I was disappointed to find out that I was unable to search the server from my Pre. 4) I can't get on the WiFi network on my job because the browser offers no option to accept certificates that need to be agreed upon before browsing. It's a great device, but i don't want to discount how well WinMo does many things. WinMo may not be the smoothest or most user friendly, but it sure gets the job done, and so far, from my experience, that's more jobs than the Pre. |
Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
This thread, albeit short, has provided me quite a bit of insight on something I've been contemplating for a week or two now: switching to the palm pre. As a Touch Pro user, I understand and share many of these frustrations, but I will admit it is probably the best device I've had. I am hesitant to get rid of it outright, replacing it with a pre. Perhaps we could get more user responses here, from both camps? While 'premature' and 'overhyped', the pre is a very attractive device. Thanks in advance for sharing your stories!

Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
Why doesn't every phone manufacturer give polished devices to begin with? If everything was perfect, forums like this one and others pertaining to other operating systems would not exist.
Edit: Sorry, did not see the post saying you meant to put this in the main forum. My bad. My stance is still the same on the ability to polish turds!! If it's on TV, it has to be true, right?! |

it because they want us to spend more money on their devices, for example batteries, software and so on... is like when car manufactures switch from carburateror to fuel injection, because they never die and on fuel injection you have to maintain them at certain level for them to be functioning properly... right? |
Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
Clearly you dont need a WM device if you thing the PRE is the answer. Maybe the 2nd or 3rd device might be worth a look, but theres a reason 30 percent are getting returned. I have a plam PRO and its a solid device, the PRE feels like some one made it out of recycled coke bottles. It has 0 apps and a great list of possibilities and maybe palm will come through with the next Iphone, but I doubt it. Ive had every PDA sprints offered since the TREO 650, and the Diamond and the PRO (in the right hands) are by far the most reliable and capable devices in the US. The Iphone is cool, but unfortunitly on an inferior network. Good luck with your PRE, your always welcome back in the WM world.

Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
Who will be the person who decides when a device is "perfect?" What one person wants may be a lot different than the next. If you leave something out to make the device speedier or more stable then another person will complain that something is not there. No device can ever be "perfect." Although I agree, some things about some devices are really inexcusible. Hardware keyboards must be much more durable. Batteries should never get so hot as to melt or destroy the device.Good luck with the Pre. Hope you got a good one! :)

Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
I do not think the Pre has/will fail. It is a cool phone for sure and the newest craze. It is all a matter of perspective and what you are looking for as a user. WinMo can be frustrating, but rewarding at the same time. I came from a Treo 750p or whatever it was and thoroughly enjoyed that phone which felt rock solid to say the least. The Pre however feels cheap in my hands. I had that phone (750p) for 2 years and never got the enjoyment out of it like I do the TP. The Pre appeals to many people because it is so functional out of the box. Many people do not want to take the time to tinker with WinMo or feel that they shouldn't have to in order for their phone to work properly. Agreed, but I for one felt the TP worked just fine with the Stock ROM out of the box for what I needed it to do. Make calls, text, email. I got the phone for like $150 so it was not much of a burden. People who complain the Pre doesn't have apps are crazy. The iPhone, which everyone wants to compare every phone to for some idiotic reason, did not have a plethora of apps when it first came out either. In fact, Steve Jobs did not initially feel that there was a need to have many apps and now look where they are at. Can't we just be happy that we are able to talk, search the web, play music, take pictures, etc etc etc with objects that fit in our pockets??

Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
I had the Pre for a week. I fell in love with the device on first sight. But it got old faster than any other phone I've ever used.
1. CRAMMED KEYBOARD. 2. Cumbersome Calendar 3. Poor email application 4. Started bogging down once you had 4 or 5 windows open 5. Charging had a crappy interface unless you spent $80 for the Touchstone In the end, it would probably make for a very nice personal phone, but nowhere near suited my needs as a business phone. To be perfectly honest, if I was going to get a separate personal phone, it would be a 3GS. The Touch Pro clearly has it's quirks, but it has enormous potential which is what this site has shown. I'm having a blast tweaking and modding this thing, and it's got enough horsepower when unleashed to do a LOT. Touch Pro for me. |

And you are right, the Pre has maybe 15-20 apps with only a few of them being slick. |

IMO, I view WM as a business centric device. All this other stuff that we tinker with on this site is mostly just for fun, and while WM certainly doesn't get the award for most fancy out of the box or the eye candy, it does what it is intended to do and a heck of a lot more. |
Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
+ 1 big Sexy, my TP dos everything I ask. :evil4:

Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
I Enjoy my Pro, but too many lags in the interface. I am looking forward to something with the Targa chip. I think Ill be in a holding pattern for awhile. It is always good to hear feedback about the new phones out there. Thx!

Now, the only device I loved that had winmo was my vogue, small, solid, stable, and even could run android full time if I wanted to. But the touch pro even with its monster specs, vga, screen and such has been such a bad experience (both of the pros I have had) that just made me hate it with a passion. I respect any winmo lover for sticking with it cuz I too am a fan of it and have been for years, but i rather enjoy my device now instead of fixing and fixing waiting for a better tomorrow with wm7 |

IMO, the problems with WM is moreso an issue of what the manufacturers are doing with it more than what it actually is. |

The WM6.1 is being completely overhauled. Do U understand that? Because 6.1 is a joke. and here U say, Oh we don't need to change 6.1. It's perfect as it is. R U a noob? |

Do you use your phone for business? WM, specifically 6.1, is FANTASTIC for it. And that's the #1 thing I need out of my phone. You do see the irony in arguing how my comments toward the Pre only apply to me, and then try repeatedly to tell me how poor WM is in your opinion even after I have said it's a nice os? Funny. |
Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
Chillax , it is all good. Without competition we be dead and have crappy devices...

Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
while I have looked into the Pre & even thought for an instant about getting one, I decided against it for several reasons...
1. Winmo customization 2. Graphics 3. Full keyboard 4. Wireless router capabilities 5. Better compatibility with web sites ..I could go on, but the bottom line is there is more customization & functionality built into the Touch Pro IMO. not to say the Pre isn't a cool device, but I just need more than what it offers. |
Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!

1. I give you that one even though there has been great customizations for the pre like the status icons, skinned dialer, icons, bootscreen etc. But nowhere near winmo 2. Pre has a faster processor and better graphics rendering than the pro2 that still lacks drivers so I have no idea where you got that. (see how well it runs doom in 3d for example) 3. The pre has a full keyboard but the pro2 is way better 4. Have you heard of 'My Tether'? 5. Dude, its WebOS so its all about the net. No better compatibility there.... Plus the browser is the best I have ever tried To all their own, hope you are happy with your pro2. Its all about preference though |

Re: Dumped my touch pro!! Best thing ever!
I have a Touch Pro... My hubby has the Pre...
It is a cool phone. Feels relatively solid... I think is phone is 'neat'. It has a lot of stuff out there. "Homebrew" apps... and such. He is really enjoying it. Where the WinMo phones he had either frustrated him or he just never really used to their potential. I am curious about the Pre. If I have another keyboard fail on my pro... I may jump ship... but I think I could become bored with the pre... So jumping ship is not a solid decision yet. |
