Phone locks up connected to computer

I just up graded to the Touch Pro from eh. verizon. I've had it for about a week and a half. sometimes when i connect it to the computer for activesync the phone will lock up. last night i was trying to transfer music to the sd card not using active sync and the phone locked up, i did a soft reset and the phone never turned back on. I've pulled the battery and have tried everything except a hammer. Verizon is sending me a new phone, I was just wondering if anyone has had the same problem and how to avoid it. I have not flashed any roms to the phone. its is 100% stock (wich may be the problem) i'm new to all this. my first ppc. any ideas would be greatly appriciated.
