D/l the desktop installer and try it. There's no guarantee, but you shouldn't loose your config. When I last installed via cab, some icons were messed up, the H/W acceleration option was missing and several widgets that should have been there weren't. I didn't check weather before I replaced the cab version with the desk6top installer version, so it could have been broken too.
