Re: New Android package for the Raphael and Diamond
when you soft-reset the phone with the stylus it will boot back to Windows Mobile. Doesn't change anything on your phone, it's like running an applications almost, except it doesn't have windows mobile running in the background.

Again, this is just from my experience with the device but here are my main gripes: - It struggles to maintain any amount of consistency when having multiple programs open. Sometimes it will work fine with several open programs and work without a hitch, while other times it has major lag and freezing with only 1-3 open apps- let alone the 10 apps palm boasts. - The web browser works well but I do tire of panning in and out whilst making silly gestures with my fingers so that the page is even remotely useable and the links are click able. The actual browser is good and it handles pages well but it still leaves a great deal to be desired in terms of maneuverability - The actual “programs menu” or whatever you care to call it tries to be clever and use the gestures on the bottom area as well as general touch and drag way of operation, which personally seems to get on my nerves. Another gripe with the way the menu works is that all the icons, whether it be a game, settings, etc, are all just thrown about in there with no real dedicated area to “Settings”(this brings me to my next and biggest gripe) - In trying to be very “clever” and “sheek” with how everything is organized in the OS they, in my opinion, made the device more confusing to use. If I pick up a PalmOS device, a BlackBerryOS device, or even a WinMo device and want to for instance, turn the GPS on or off I would simply look for a settings/options area and surely there would be a GPS type setting inside there. On the Pre, there’s an option on the NORMAL program menu for “location settings.” Who uses location settings often enough that it need take up space on the main menu? A second big point: lets say you transfer some songs or files you have to your Pre, and then you unplug it and pull up the media player and try to play the song or open the file. For a song you’d open the media player and try to play the file but if it didn’t show, where would you go to find the file? It turns out that that you have no way of knowing without plugging the unit back into a computer to manage the “USB drive.” A simple file explorer app or just the unit saying, “hey, I cant play this file type” would have sufficed but no- you just get left wondering why it doesn’t show up. All in all, I'm not impressed with WebOS in its current form- not in its current build at least.

Ok I will. I can currently boot into Android and run it for anything I us WinMo for. Make calls, send texts/sms, surf the web,etc... the only limitations right now are bluetooth, camera, and GPS. Give it some more time and they will have this as well. |
