That figures, just the opposite of what I'm seeing.........

I see no difference whatever is speed between the two systems by the way, merdin's setup has absolutely instant response & so does PointUI so I find they are pretty much equal in that regard.

only thing i can't find a good pointui replacement for is weather radar. right now i'm messing with spb ms3 and weatherpanel. any ideas to get a radar image in pointui? is there an applet that will download an animated gif? wouldn't bother me if it was separate from the 5 day weather.

does merdin's have keyboard lag? I want 6.5 but I have fallen in love with the zippy keyboard in the dcd 6.1 beta.

I'm getting no KB lag whatever in merdin's 6.5 ROM.

I use weather panel in a 2nd today screen that opens from a PointUI shortcut. I also use the weather channel app.

Well, I've just taken the plunge so I hope I'm not going to be let down. I tried the free version when it first came out and was largely unimpressed, particularly with performance. Let's hope that time has improved this.

One question though, is it possible to have things like calendar etc call Pocket Informant rather than the built-in apps?

I've asked this same ? over at poitui.com and have no responses yet. It'd be awesome not to have to run weatherpanel anymore since that is all I use it for is the radar updates. Until then it's PointUI and secondtoday!

Why would you not want to run WP??

IMHO, WP is 100 times better than any other weather app available......

I tried creating an account on pointui.com so I could download some of the themes and such. It says I should get an email with my password, but I never get that email. Anyone have that problem?

Hmmmm...is there a way to maybe have 2nd today triggered by a button within pointui, and then have wp be the only plugin on it?

I woke up this morning and thought the same thing. You can get it back by taking off full screen. There may be an app for it.

Re: PointUI (Home 2) : Faster than TF3D (Updated 6-3-09)

it blocks it because pointui has its own Task manager built in. hit menu at the bottom left corner, first option is "Running" the only things i found it wont close is internet sharing and live messenger, if you are logged in

PointUI is wicked awesome. It runs a whole lot better than TF3D. I'm considering going Pro, probably on my next paycheck.

Mine went to automatically to spam. Depending on how your email service handles spam, that's probably what happened.

Re: PointUI (Home 2) : Faster than TF3D (Updated 6-3-09)

I really have mixed emotions about this app, I am using the Pro version & bouncing back & forth between this & merdin's custom Rhodium TF3D2.

Each app has its advantages & disadvantages & I am having a terrible time trying to just stick with one or the other (although that's not exactly a bad problem to have)

I find speed-wise they are dead equal as merdin's setup is lightning fast so it loses nothing there to PointUI. I definitely like some of Rhodium's features a little better than PointUI, but the simplicity & speed/smooth operation of PointUI is pretty appealing also.

I used MobileShell 3.0 for a while also, but got bored with it pretty quickly. When I first installed it, I thought the spinning cube was totally awesome but I quickly realized that I never really used the cube for anything & it's one of those "cool features" you show other people but never actually use for anything.........

yeah ms3 was ok for a little bit, but then after flashing upgraded roms and then setting itup all over again, it wasn't appealing to me anymore.

with Home2 I just copy the folders in applets and any other files i've modified (in their structure to keep it easy) and just paste them right back after i've flashed the rom and BAM#&(!#&*(! Just like i never flashed! So no time wasted, is that cool or what? Don't have to set up cities or settings, it's all saved!

Yeah I like being able to copy things in and out of Home. Makes things much easier when flashing.

Off topic, but what ROM are u guys using neways? I'm using Silence 6.5. Great ROM...

to be honest no i don't. It still lasts 1 day with heavy txt and medium phone usage.

nothing hangs or stalls so its really smooth and extremely fast.

Bummer, performance wise it's still a problem for me, but on when I go back to the home page. Not sure why, have done hard reset so I can only assume the software is getting stuck on something. It can take up to 10 seconds to go back to the home screen - not good enough.

Does anyone also have any advise on integrating with apps other than the built-in ones?

Cheers,
Pete

Has anyone noticed a problem with the ringer not ringing? Im havbing a MAJOR problem to where my ringer always switches to this default ringtone and doesnt ring when a call comes in. I know it has to do with the sound profile of the apps I use. I use infiniti and set the profile to normal. Oh, and I am using the pro version.

GhettoBSD 06-06-2009 07:26 PM

Re: PointUI (Home 2) : Faster than TF3D (Updated 6-3-09)

i am using silence 6.1 rv 3.3

i am pretty sure that infinity has a bug in it, it doesn't represent vibrate as vibrate in the icon, it's being worked on. Also sometimes i get the feeling the sound is set right, but i have a feeling it's more the combination of the rom and infinity. So i am going to flash back to SR9 v1

i don't know what to tell you piniatta... what rom are you using? As far as i've seen we can't use standard home items in home2 which is a shame, i wish i could run spb suite in it for the call firewall...

maybe it's someting else you have running that's conflicting with something or taking up cpu time? maybe gps, weather or something else in the background?

the only thing i've seen that causes a delay is the wait to start home2 on boot which is like 0-15 seconds i think?

jmorton10 06-06-2009 08:15 PM

Re: PointUI (Home 2) : Faster than TF3D (Updated 6-3-09)

After using PointUI Pro for two weeks, I ended up going back to Merdin's awesome custom Rhodium TF3D2. I find that is every bit as fluid & fast as PointUI & has features I like that are not available in PUI (or the PUI version is not as sophisticated as Rhodium)

I will leave PointUI installed as it is always another option when I get bored (which happens quite a bit), but I think it is still pretty raw compared to a highly customized Rhodium setup.

Standard ROM, no background tasks that I've initiated...I guess it's just not for my machine, a bit strange given everyone else seems to be fine with it. Pity, I really liked it.

the newness factor rubs away pretty quickly...i was there at the very first stages all the way til now with pointui...its not bad...not bad at all, but i think touchflo is more intuitive. i use psyki's roms and they by far are the cream of the crop when it comes to custom roms.

Until you discover Merdin's awesome 6.5....... ;-)

I agree that after the novelty of PointUI wears off, Rhodium really kicks its butt (I felt the same way about MS 3.0 for a while)

MyStatus Collapsable is freakin great guys. Clock, Weather, and Appointments in one app. I still use a seperate weather for 5 day. MyStatus only gives you current temp, today/tomorrow hi/low temps.

you can very easily get away with just this one app.

A must have...check it out.
