alltel touch pro roaming and verizon phone full EV

i live down in NC. and i have spotty service but i have ev and rA and never roaming. I come up home to Jersey and im full bars at 1x and roaming. now i have no idea why im roaming and my parents verizon phones are full service. Im running Silence rom and the verizon radio 1.03.03v. then when i try calling *228 and try option 1 to program or option 2 to update roaming capabilitys it says sorry cant do it. Is there something i can do or change on the phone or call alltel and say hey isnt alltel and verizon the same so why am i roaming.

I was always told you cannot use *228 anywhere other than your home cell. Now for the bad part. Our company has contracts with AllTel and they're trying to switch us over to the Verizon service. The few TP's we have are experiencing horrible service, like you are detailing. After many calls to Alltel we finally got a call from a Verizon tech. He told us they are having troubles getting the TP's to operate on the verizon network. They told us we may have to switch the TP's out to other phones.

well if it helps anyone..i just got an email stating that effective june 8 my wireless statment is gonna be verizon wireless. then come july 11th i will be checkin my online account at the verizon site. i wonder if this means if ill be roaming once i leave 10 miles away from home. and there was no mention on any update for the phone.
