Updating wireless devices on May 18th!

I just received the following text message from Alltel:

"FREE ALLTEL MSG:
Update your phone May 18:
Dial *228 + SEND, option 1, wait for msg,
turn phone off & on.
Visit alltel.com/systemupdates for more info."

I'm not sure what all the update will consist of but it will be "required" to continue services.

Here are the details from alltel's website:

https://alltel.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...p?p_faqid=8737

They must be updating in stages, location by location.
I'm in SE Mississippi.

**UPDATE COMPLETE**

Here are the EPST changes that were made in my area.

Under NAM Settings:

MNC (Mobile Network Code) changed from 27 to 72

ACCOLC (Access overload Class) changed value from 0 to 2

Under Home SID/Home NID:

Home SID/NID #1 (no change) 1393 / 65535

Home SID/NID #2 (REMOVED) 1394 / 65535 was reset to default value 0 / 0

PRL ID was updated from 30035 to 30040

That's it for now as far as I can tell.

All is working well with no noticeable changes in the performance of services.

Probably has something to do with the Verizon Transition.

That was my thoughts too.

It might bee a good idea to record our current ESPT settings and compare them to the post update settings.

This should provide us with some specifics on the update.

I have an Alltel TP on VZW. I would be interested to know any changes this update does. If someone would please post any changes (including the new PRL if applicable) it would be appreciated.

I have yet to receive this message, I'm in Raleigh, NC on Alltel. I'll post if/when I do receive this, but honestly, I can't wait to get rid of the crappy coverage that Alltel Smartphones seem to get...:D

Like I said in my OP, I think they are updating in stages location by location.

Maybe they started the update process back in February, perhaps? IDK.

I just got 2 text from them this weekend, along with a recorded
phone call to remind me.

It seems as if they are just now updating my location (Mississippi) on the 18th (tomorrow).

Some areas in Florida got the system update on May 13th.

We'll soon see, and I'll post the results on the specifics of the changes
that are made after I update my phone tomorrow.
