It's a market transition. The 434 area (South Eastern VA) did this last month. Your MIN settings were changed so that your phone will operate with VZW. SPL is unlocked during the process, not sure if it stays that way. You also get the latest PRL pushed to you, EVDO Rev. A devices gain 30040.

I just completed the update and posted the changes for my area in my OP.
It didn't change my actual MIN, just the MNC.

*UPDATE RESULTS*

Under NAM Settings:

MNC (Mobile Network Code) changed from 27 to 72

ACCOLC (Access overload Class) changed value from 0 to 2

Under Home SID/Home NID:

Home SID/NID #1 (no change) 1393 / 65535

Home SID/NID #2 (REMOVED) 1394 / 65535 was reset to default value 0 / 0

PRL ID was updated from 30035 to 30040

Yeah, its probably just a transitional update. If your PRL was updated, I'm willing to bet it includes some Verizon Towers on that PRL. Transition should be finished by end of summer right?

Did a similar thing back when Cingular took over the old At&t. Not a big deal hope you get a better signal.

It might have something to do with the new PRL (preferred roaming list) that was pushed with the update. It changed my PRL from 30035 to 30040.

Check your version under "device Information"

The PRL changes the order of the "preferred" tower that your phone will connect to by default. The most current PRL might now be "perferring" a tower in your area that has a weaker signal than that of the previous PRL.

The first thing I would try is to revert back to the previous PRL that you had a better signal on. Which would be 30035. I posted for you below.

This may be different for you if you reside in an Alltel/Verizon divested market area.

Here are the directions:

1. Download & unzip the 30035.prl and place it somewhere on your phone.
2. To enter EPST, dial ##778 and press send
3. select "edit"
4. unlock code= 000000
5. left softkey "view info"
6. scroll down & select PRL
7. highlight "Update PRL File"
8. right softkey "menu" >"edit"
9. browse for the PRL file you transfered to your phone in step 1.
10. left softkey "OK"
11. Reboot.

If it doesn't help and you want return to the latest 30040 PRL, just *228 and option 1 again.

Good luck.

Yea...that's what I thought to Buehlar. I already walked him through the process of going back to an older PRL the other night and it didn't make any difference. Maybe he should try a few different older PRL's. I already gave him this site, but incase he lost it, here it is http://www.the-answerman.com/sidlist/prl/index.asp. You can get older PRL's there. Good luck Chris

Ok, I wasn't sure if it would work or not, I didn't notice any change in signal strength at my location after the update.

Has he tried roaming only? Probally wont make a difference either way.

Here is another site with various PRLs for all carriers. http://www.corolada.com/prl/

I don't think he's tried that.
