Question Exchange locking policy NOT being enforced

I've got some information that comes in via email and stored in contacts that shouldn't get into the wrong hands. As such, I want to lock the phone after 15 minute of inactivity.

My exchange server enforces this policy on the device, I got the message when I set up activesync, and have it set for 15 minutes.

However, it doesn't seem to always lock after 15 minutes of inactivity. I'd guess that it locks 1 out of 5 times.

I looked at this thread that talks about disabling what I want:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=43428
and confirmed that my settings are all set to enable the feature.

I'm using a stock ROM on a verizon HTC Touch pro. No hacks other than the battery save and "reply" instead of "reply all" registry edits.

Suggestions?

Thanks all - ppcgeeks.com has been great reading!

do you use s2u2? You can set a pin with that and there's different settings for timeout.

can't you bypass that with a soft reset though?

I use exchange also and when I log into OWA, I can go to Options > Mobile Devices and then "Wipe all data from device...". If it got into the wrong hands, this could help you rather than just locking it.

Yeah, I've actually done this before when another user left their phone in a taxi.

The autolocking is very useful though for that time when you lose the phone and don't realize it. This way, there won't even be a short period of time where someone can access the info (presuming it was locked when lost).

What I'm trying to figure out is why it wouldn't lock like the old treo 700w did. I assume this is NOT normal behavior.

you can set s2u2 to start automatically and also set the password to run immediately so there wouldn't be a soft reset delay.

Good to know that there is a work around, and thanks for the info, but still - why wouldn't the device just lock like all of the other pocketpc's that I've used?

That is def. not normal. I don't have the Verizon TP, but I know my Sprint version does lock as it is set to by Exchange. Maybe the Verizon rom lacks something that enables the device to enforce the Exchange requirements? Don't know, but that isn't normal at all...

What? Verizon doing something abnormal and breaking a pocketpc? No - never

Seriously though, any verizon users out there with a TP and exchange sync with security?
