Alltel to Verizon conversion Help

Hello, I just got my Alltel touch pro, and I am ready to convert to Verizon. After reading some posts, i see that it can be done, but I still need to do the conversion. The original sprint TP - Verizon thread seems to be gone.

1.) anyone know where an updated conversion thread could be- maybe alltel specific?

2.) do I need to run an unlocker on an Alltel phone for this to work? ( or is that just sprint)

3.) Is there a better rom to install other than the Verizon one? Like a custom kitchen one?

Any help from someone who has done this already would be greatly appreciated.
