should I just upgrade the rom first??

Hi, I looked for this question in the search but could not find it so sorry if this is a repost... I was just wondering if when I get this phone should I just go and upgrade the rom right off the bat? right out of the box? or should I wait? I know a lot of you probably did this already. just a thought. what do you think??

Re: should I just upgrade the rom first??

Personally, I think you should do some hands-on research with it first. There's no way you could possibly make an educated decision on which ROM to try without knowing what you like/dislike and are looking for. If you ask 20 random people which ROM is the best, you'll probably get at least 10-15 different answers because all of our needs are different when it comes to the functionality of our phones. Again, this is my personal opinion, but I say take a look around the forums once you get the phone and figure out what you want. Then it will be easier to find a custom ROM if that's the route you choose.

Edit: And welcome to the site!

Thank you for your input hafrust, that sounds like a real good idea. Also if I do start messing around with the rom does this void the warranty?

It will void the warrenty, until you flash it back to the stock rom which is very very easy! so i guess you could say you can always unvoid it in about 10 minutes. Also you should relock the phone which is even faster than flashing back to the stock rom

just remember if you have to take your phone in for anything...you should reflash your Touch Pro with your carrier's STOCK ROM, and then you need to remember to RELOCK your phone.

What if you cannot do this? Say it doesn't turn on? Can they still tell that you unlocked it? What if the USB port is somehow damaged, and you cannot reflash to the stock ROM and relock? Are you better off saying you lost it and then pay whatever the insurance fee is?

Re: should I just upgrade the rom first??

First and foremost hard reset your phone right out the box... next play with it see what things you like what things you dislike...then if you still think a new rom may make it better search the roms built and see which one includes the things you like and dislike..then read...READ...READ...READ...and read some more... about any and every thing you wanna do... finally BACK UP EVERY THING.. before doing any thing...
Welcome to the site and once you get this phone you'll spend hours here as well as other similar sites..kiss your wife/girlfriend and tell her she's gonna miss you for a while lol

I think that depends on your future/final plans.

If you are 100% sure that you will flash at some point, then it makes sense to flash with something like Mighty 4.16 right off the bat before you get a lot of programming etc installed.

If you really have no idea however, then I would play around with the stock ROM for a while & see what you do/don't like about it & whether or not the problems can be fixed with a simple tweak or if you really need to flash to fix it.
