My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

I changed some of the l.e.ds on the front of my touch. I got the idea when i found a few strips of l.e.ds from back when i modded nextels with them.

Where can I download this mod? I don't see any links.

Wow that is nice work. Did you take shots of the inside while you were doing the mod? Would love to see the detail (not that I intend to try this, at least until I get a Raphael, but it would be fun to look at).

Verrrryyy niiiiice! I would like to change the touch ring to either blacklight LED or bright blue, start call would be green and end call would be red. =D

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

Holy MOTHER****ING ****!

OMG OMG OMG OMG! That is SO COOL!!

You HAVE to post pics! PLEASE! And the exact type of LED's you used, how you soldered them, INFO!

How did you access the front panel? Do I have to disassemble?

I'm gonna do the green/red phone buttons and a blue ring!

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

Thanks everyone. I can't really show you how to do it. I can tell you what you need.

Soldering iron 15-20 Watt with fine tip
Solder
0603 size SMT L.E.D
And Skills

I don't recommend anyone to do this unless you have done this before or have done other really small soldering. It is extremely easy to break the contact on the board and never get it back.

Heres the board with the orignal l.e.ds on it. I dont have a pic with the new , but it looks the same pretty much.

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

Hehe, yeah, I actually have experience building boards for microprocessor applications and robot building and would not try this on my phone. I'm just not there yet where I can go crazy on such an expensive piece of equipment.

Looks nice though, good job.

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

Ok, I know how to solder, but how did you manage THAT? What type of solder did you use? Or did you just use the same solder that was already on the board? and how much space is between the contacts for each LED?

Plus, are their any warranty stickers that need to be broken?

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

LOL I was sort of wondering that too. Politeness won out. :)

A soldering iron with a small tip, and more than "Skills", I'd say...I think m4d sk1llz is more like it (and at my age, getting me to write something like that means a lot).

I think you should bring it to a Sprint store and complain that your LEDs have started acting funny and see what happens. :)

Hehe, it was in all seriousness a Joke. 100% on purpose. As I've said before I have some experience with these soldering thingies. :D

You need to add a little more rosin core solder. There is about this much - space between contacts. You have to take the whole phone apart to be able to get the front keyboard out. There is a sticker over one of the back screws , but not sure if its a warranty sticker. After doing the mod im sure you won't have to worry about the warranty because new l.e.ds will void it.

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

This might not work, but I remember reading a long time ago on how to MOD LED lighting without soldering. Basically, you took some plastic that was the color that you wanted and put it on top of the LED. I don't know if there is enough space in there to do that but it might help...also, if it works, you could take it out if you needed to take it back for an exchange.

Perhaps taking a sharpie of the desired color might also do it.

Again, IDK if that will work, but it was in a tut. that I saw a long time ago.

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

That looks amazing - and is how it should have been originally... at least the send and end lights.

I'd love to do this, but I'm on my 4th TP now and the hardware keyboard just stopped working on this one too, so it has to go back. I just have horrible luck with these things, doing anything to void the warranty that isn't easily reversed is a bit like throwing out insurance and condemning myself to buying a new TP in about a month.

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

Wow, amazing job. If I may toot my own horn for a moment, I am pretty damned skilled at soldering (i work with 0402 sized SMT stuff on a regular basis... resistors are basically the size of 3 grains of sand), but I am just far too nervous for this sort of thing... voiding my warranty and insurance and all just for some colors? gah, almost seems worth it. keyword being "almost". if you break those surface mount ribbon cables, you're pretty much screwed.

again, great job man.

nice mod.. VERY unique! i would get em in blue if i could do this. I know how to solder but i dont have the required "mad skill" for me to perform this.

I just did the mod with some magic markers :)
Took me about 10 mins to dissasemble, re-assemble.
Although its about 75% as bright as stock, Its
"Just" right :P Here is a Blurricam pic:

Magic Markers Rule!
Although the colors aren't as Vibrant
as replacing the leds.. It does work
pretty well. I am not trying to take away
the spotlight here.. As the OP did a Fine
job of replacing the leds the "Right" way :headbang:
I was just being laazy :violent2:

Took a Better picture =D>

Nice work. This really looks nice. I'm pretty sure someone can get the LEDS from those broken phones on e-bay as long as they haven't gone to the pool. Now does the LEDS are from a pro or can it be fom a different phone as the 6800 or apache?

Is it possible to use a sharpie to color the phone icons themselves from inside rather than the LEDs? Would this make them show up in color even when the LED isn't on?

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

being the ghetto way is the only way for me, i might have to use my highlighters!
