Great thought!

OP: Amazing! I never do any hardware mods though...

If your talking about the white rubber under the icons I think that might work real well. Someone try it and post some pics.

Ok, so I used your suggestion and I colored the LED's with sharpie. Except, they came out very light [see image] I want them to be vibrant like yours! [esp. the end key]

How did you make those colors so deep?

The sharpies I used are pictured:

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...1674Medium.jpg

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...1675Medium.jpg

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...1676Medium.jpg

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...1677Medium.jpg

Sorry they're blurry... It may look red, but its really pink/pastel-like

Ideas? Do I use a darker sharpie? These are BRAND NEW markers!

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

Oopsie.. Forgot to add that in :silent:

You have to "Layer" the marker coloring..
When you color the leds, Just "Blot" them
with the tip of the marker. Let each layer
dry before doing another. It takes about 4
blots to get a nice and deep color. If you
just colored them like you normally use a
marker, Or pen for that matter.. Then every
time you pass over the same spot, The
marker "Wipes" off the previous spot..
Thats why you have to just "Blot" it.
Or, its called "Dabbing".. meethinks? :)

No Silly.. But, Testors Model paint will :evil4: or nail polish...
Just make sure you try it one thin layer at a time.

ok so how do you take apart the touch pro

robertkmagill 04-06-2009 08:39 PM

Re: My touch pro mod - L.E.Ds

I'am pretty sure that stuff is pure silicone.
And it doesnt take well to coloring with an
alcohol-based marker like a sharpie. You
would have to use the boiling technique like
the guy that did the back cover with RitDye.

Don't quote me on it though :silent:

Not gonna lie, its time consuming. And you've gotta be VERY CAREFUL! So many ribbon cables that can tear!

Here's the service manual. Page 19 starts with disassembly: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3IOVUX7P

I think it looks better in a single color instead of lighting up like a Christmas tree... but I'm also the guy that runs the stock GSM manila theme and likes thigs to be plain and simple. Just thinks it's more "classy" all white.

Mod looks great though, I don't have the balls to do it and I've done my fair share of soldering

Ya.. I took apart my ol Touch several time and could do it blind folder. But I have never done the pro. Any links for instruction in doing so? Btw.... the trip for the Touch was to remover the screwsunder the battery cover and then with a credit card or anything plastic thats thin and hard, you wedhe it in the middle crease and you go around the whole ppc until its unlatched. Is this also the process ont he PRO?

lol...I personally wouldn't want the multicolor look either, but I wouldn't mind changing them all to a solid blue. My stuff is usually fairly simple and vanilla. This is one of the coolest things about WM, everyone can customize to their own taste.

See my post above for the instructions. Yup, you have to use a lever of sorts to get the keyboard and an internal housing out. I prefer fingernail because its much easier to limit damage.

Hey Skruff, you don't like Mighty ROM do you? ;) That is a pretty cool pic. Anyway, hijack over...back to the led's.

Ohh, Forgots to add.
If you do the magic marker method,
You can allways revert back by dabbing
a q-tip in alcohol and rubbing off the marker
colors. That way, Sprint won't be able to
tell what you've done.. Mwahahahaha!

YA! Well said! No tethered barned barbed wired i-sheeps here! I have done sme soldering and mods but I have a terrible nervous issue when I deal with small electronics! So as soon as I grab a solder iron... my hand just shakes like a mad man with terrets!

Now it looks better than Easter Eggs. :evil4:

Thanks so much for your help! I did the blotting technique and it still wasn't dark enough, so I also colored the silicon and it came out PERFECTLY!

Again, you ROCK! What a great way to enter the site!

I wanna try the color film method. Instead of physically coloring the led, just lay a color film over it. I wonder how it would look? Would it be richer in color?

Nope, its reflection from my computer's LED lights [Dell XPS 720]

I didn't damage the phone at all! [thank goodness!]

KEEP TRACK OF ALL THE SCREWS IF YOU DO THIS!

Oh, and you need a mini torx set to get the back off.

Once the screws are off, where do you start prying with a plastic tab to start unhinging the case?

Stick you nail between the keyboard and chrome and work your way around.

That would look a tad better :)
Use lighting "Gels" like you use with photography.
Those will do the job nicely.

I guess you proved me wrong with coloring the silicone =D>
Then i guess its a rubber/silicone mix that works with Any
kind of Dyes :silent: Hmm... Then anyone who does this method
should do Both the Leds, and the Rubber backing pad behind
front button cover :headbang:
