does the same thing... disconnects from the service whenever the phone is in standby.
the worst part is that none of them actually tell me that i've been disconnected... i'll pull out the phone and send an IM, but the person never recieves it...
for everything i've tried, i have to exit the program and reconnect before i can send and recieve IMs again.

basically, i just want something where i can be on aim and readily able to send or receive IMs without a hassle...

Never happens to me even with the one that comes with it.

i played with palringo all day today... for the most part it would stay connected, but here and there i'd get disconnected and when i went back to the accounts tab it would say under AIM "Connection Attempt Throttled"...
any ideas?

I have used PalRingo and it works well. The bad thing is that if you close the chat, it doesnt save a log of waht was going on before...That is a bad thing for me.

Using Beejive, I noticed that this doesn't happen and the GUI is a lot better. BUT, the memory footprint of the program is WAY bigger than the one of Palring...Thus, I have a trade off between the programs.

I have tried fringe, but I don't remember exactly what I thought about it, I think I told someone that it was better than Palringo though.

UPDATE:

FRING uses about half the resources of Beejive. I will test Palringo In a bit.

UPDATE 2:

Palringo Uses 215K of memory
Fring uses 1390K of memory
BeeJive used about 2900K

This should help determine how much batt life they will take away, I don't think any of them use a lot of CPU power.

Well this might help. If you start up the IM program and hit the home button. Go to the task manager and hold down on the IM program and make it exculsive so that it won't cut off when the phone goes into standby mode or you tap the x button to exit the program. It will always run in the background. I do that to all the IM programs and seems to work.

Using palringo I got about 9 hours on casual usage. It was in startup and I forgot about it. I usually get about 12 to 14 hours on a charge without it running.
