Re: hardware keyboard issue photo essay a.k.a. i was bored

@jokester7

Have you tried this other "fix"?

Here is what I posted on the other thread:

Quote:
So, I flashed the stock ROM back on my phone and relocked it so I could take it back to the Sprint store, fully expecting to get a replacement phone because my hardware keyboard had finally quit working all together. So I take it in and they take it back to their tech guy... a couple min later they call me back there (I'm thinking 'oh crap, did I not relock properly?' Lol..)
The tech (who I actually know) tells me he literally just heard about a new fix today.
The fix is:
Take the battery out, hold down the space bar pretty hard for about 5 seconds (while the battery is out), reinsert the battery and power on device.
I don't know how or why this worked, but I am not complaining. Hopefully this will last...

This worked for me like a charm. The main problem I think is the small connector underneath the spacebar key.

Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

Yeah, when you hold the space bar down hard you're just pushing against the connector inside the case that comes loose. The pictures in the first post show the connector in question.

Re: hardware keyboard issue photo essay a.k.a. i was bored

I've been having keyboard issues, for a while the space bar trick worked but then nothing. I opened it press on all the connections worked for like half an hour and then nothing again. So I ordered and OEM keypad installed it and still nothing. It lights up when you slide it out and the screen rotates but no key response.

Any Ideas? This is driving me crazy, I really don't want to buy a new phone.

Apache committed suicide for some reason, its back up. Honestly I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to host these pics anyway. I may discontinue the server I'm using as I don't really have the need for it like I used to and I could find a use for the $110/mo it costs me. Not to mention that I traded up for an Evo so I don't even use the TP anymore.

Re: hardware keyboard issue photo essay a.k.a. i was bored

I stil have issues which I dont know whether are related to the connection problems of those two or three wires. Basically most keys work okay but the top and bottom row gives the most problems, sometimes one hit double-types or doesn't type at all. The crucial keys like ctrl, shift, function & backspace and spacebar make it so difficult when typing.

Any idea thedoctor1971?

Could be a defective keyboard or the connection. Repeating keys is typical when the connection gets loose. I finally got rid of my TP and have an Evo now. So far I'm loving it.
