I just did this with mine wtih about 5 layers on each side and now i can push the volume buttons without the screen moving at all. Pretty handy and gives it more of a solid feeling if you're just tapping away at the screen with a sip. You don't feel the screen hit the keyboard on the left side.

no the phone is fine the keyboard felt like it had a little slack
