Hi everyone, first post here.

The search function led me to a number of threads, but this one seems most applicable.

I work for a smaller company and I travel quite a bit on business. Email is POP3 (they don't have exchange).

Is it impossible to set up an outlook email account on my touch pro? The VZW people have offered a few workarounds, like auto forwarding and the like, but each method has its issues. Besides, just on principle, it makes sense to me that if a POP3 would work with MS outlook on windows XP, it should also work with MS outlook on windows mobile.

All help is most appreciated.

You would just need the POP3 and IMAP addresses for the server...

The above quote is incorrect-or at least not applicable to theproblem at hand. Actually, this how Small Business Sever tells you how to set up your exchange server. Local access is through exchange.mycompany.com, remote access is done through mail.mycompany.com. Aso, the certificate automatically installs if you set up outlook from a local IP address. If you are trying to access remotely, then you need to install the certificate on the remote client. Now, domain enrollment may handle the certificate for you, but at least with our exchange server, I had to install the certificate manually. One way to do this is to got to the outlook web access page,, view the certificate, and export it to a file. Then you hould be able to install it on your phone.

I was speaking from personal experience. I have 0 idea how his network is set up. On average, I set up about 10 phones (fresh out of the box) a week to sync with our exchange server. I have never once had to install a certificate on any phone/remote client.

I can't use it because of the GLB act. But i know a person who could and is actually in need of something JUST like that!

The do supply the same functionality to Sprint, AT&T, AllTell, & US Cellular albeit under different names. See link --> http://www.seven.com/howtoget.united_states.html

Thanks for the idea on SEVEN. Unfortunately, when I'm traveling, my laptop is usually with me -- turned off and in the bag.

ok i checked it out, seems pretty cool! For those of you who can use it, go for it but be careful because i'm positive if you work in a corp. environment you aren't allowed to use install this much less use it.

well I tried every variation of your instructions as I could (putting domain and a \ in front of the username) but it doesn't work.

Does anyone else know what I mean when I say how easy it was to set up OWA on a samsung Instinct? Why isnt it this way with windows mobile?

Whenever I try to hook my pro up to the exchange server it says that the certificate isn't vaild and the admin needs to update it. The admin is my friend who says that the certificate is good until 2011 and his blackberry can push through and get his e-mail. We can't figure out why mine keeps saying what it does. It's so frustrating.

have you tried setting up connection to your exchange server via Outlook? Its probably best to try and troubleshoot it from there.. then youll know..
A) is it a problem with the logon credentials?
B) is it a problem with your mobile device

i've looked a little deeper and it does seem that some exchange servers require unique certificates.. i myself have never had to work with these so im not much help... but that could be the next thing to check out...

heres what id do..
get your exchange server working with outlook. take note of what the username u had to use was. (ex: jimbo, domain\jimbo, jimbo@mailserver.com).
take note of the port used for accessing the exchange.
use the same credentials on your mobile.

heres some tips that may help you out...
*NOTE: names used in this example refer to "jimbo@mailserver.com" whos domain is "domain"*

WHEN IT COMES TO USER NAMES..
its not always just "jimbo".. depending on how your mail server is setup it could be..
-jimbo
-jimbo@mailserver.com
-mailserver\jimbo
-domain\jimbo
youre gonna have to try all of them

sometimes the person who sets up the exchange will leave the required domain for the username as "na"...
best buy does this.. so the username required is "na\a835022"

does your mail server have pop/smtp access? if so, do u have to use a generic username (jimbo) or is it domain specific (domain\jimbo)

here to help

EDIT: need to check and see if the mail server has SSL too

I am having problems setting up my company email. We use IBM Lotus /I Notes.
Also, I have to go thur Domino redirect form my home computer, with name and password. Which is webmail based from my computer.

I tried my webmail address and it would not connect. Said not supported.
My old phone Sanyo 9000 I had no problem getting there. I don't know what the difference would be. I had Explorer on it.

Can anyone help?

This thread is more to setup exchange with your phone I think... "push" mail if you will.

However, your browser may be advertising itself as a mobile phone and that's what is tripping it up - have you tried changing the browser settings so it's not in "mobile" mode?
