Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
I used the SPJ cab fix and it sure worked for me! I'm running Mighty 4.13. I tested the lag from before to after and WHOA it can keep up with me no problem!!

and classic completion.. NO more lag after words.. |
Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
I can attest to the fact that reg tweaks or disabling t9 really does nothing for the text lag issue (which is were it is most apparent). I believe that this is the placebo effect, or that the people that see improvement do not type as fast as some of us that see the lag even after tweaks.
One thing I did notice is that it might not just be software related. I saw that when I was texting and I pressed the Fn key, the light lagged to turn on also. |

Only because now its going to fast and you type the same letter like 4 times.. Just switch to the default keyboard as the sip and get your speed back best solution IMO.. |
Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
To get the default keyboard, do you just not use any sips during rom creation? Like the dialer?
|
Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
Is the SIP selection to original good enough, or do the other SIP have to be uninstalled or somehow unregistered?

Just bring up the sip and select if you want full qwerty, compact qwerty or what ive been talking about the hole time just a regular titan aka mogul keyboard](*,) |
Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
Ah! You mean use the tiny keyboard that looks as a real one as default... Yeah, just tried, that still gives me lag. And I have word completion completely deactivated.

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
Well I dont.. Which rom you using.??
|
Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
One I created with calkulin's kitchen. No TF3D, no dialers.

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
I can definately tell you that it sure did make a huge difference. It would take a bothering and noticable amount of time for my text to finish on screen after I've stopped typing. I tried this prior to the reg. edit a couple times for testing purposes and my device was running with everything I normally used still in RAM. I then installed the .cab, did a couple things on my phone and reset. I loaded just about everything I normally do once the device is turned on and, sure enough, when I started hacking away on my KB, it made me smile cuz I'm no longer bothered by a lag. This is the truth! It's odd how it's hit or miss for some of you and that sucks!

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
After reading the entire thread, I would, humbly, like to add to the information flow. I am a power business user and run push email on my tp. I use the device, almost exclusively, for my business email and only the hw keyboard when I am not connected to my laptop (which is alot) nad I use Pocket Controller Pro when I am connected.
This is not an opinion, just what I've experienced and this information is just the drop in the bucket for developers to use. Whith both the stock ROM and a couple of the amazing custom ROM's, I have experienced lagging in POP3 email, Exchange email, SMS texting (I use it, extensively, for business purposes), and Office Mobile applications. I find it very annoying. Something I have noticed that I didn't see mentioned is that mine will lag and when it catches up, it doesn't catch up, completely. In other words, it doesn't make it to the word I stopped on after noticing that it was lagging. Another thing I noticed, that I didn't see mentioned and I think is extremely important, is that when I am typing anything using Pocket Controller Pro there is no lag. I will add that I may not have been as sensitive to it while using PCP and may not have noticed it. I beleive I would have, though. I do alot more emails, etc. on the actual phone that with PCP because if I am using PCP it is way after working hours. I don't have an office, so everything I do is through exchange and only connect to Exchange through the TP. Because of this, I am inclined to think that this problem could definately be associated with drivers, due to the differences between using the hw keyboard on the device and PCP using my laptop keyboard. I am not looking for any approvals or disapprovals and definately no flames because this is only my experience. I just thought it might be relavent to the code writers. My daughter experiences the same lag on her Mogul, btw, as did I. Hope this helps the awsome programmers and if it did, I wouldn't mind a thanks! matt |

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
How the freak do I get rid of word suggestion? it's driving me nuts. I am on Caulkin's newest 6.5 rom. Usually there is a 3rd row where you can uncheck word suggestion, but the input panel only has 2 rows. I tried the disable Xt9 cab found in this thread but that didn't work. Thanks in advance!

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
well this helped me get rid of text suggestion and it improved speed as well. Not sure if that's b/c of the program or b/c it disabled word suggestion. Thanks to iconeo. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...5&postcount=24

I too, at first, believed that is was the display that was lagging the input of text. However, delving further into it I have found that it is how winmo interprets key codes coming from hardware keyboard. Winmo hardware keyboards typically come with a modified msim*.dll which tends to be labeled something like msim*.dll where * is some identifier with digits. The reg code that points to the file is: [HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\(the default value)] Changing this to point to msim*.dll without any digits in it (which should still be on your phone even though it isn't being used) will change the hardware key codes back to normal. !!! THIS WILL BREAK T9 or any advanced correction features !!! This is most likely why turning off t9 lends to faster text input, but not as fast as this fix. Props to dilta over at xda for the utility! note: this hasn't been tested on foreign roms, use with caution. this is stilla work in progress. While I haven't had ANY problems with it, others have reported problems. The CAB installs to your game directory as it was made to fix a problem with games. It is toggle-able and must be turned on and off, useful for those of us who need that functionality. |
Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
The problem with me was that the word suggestion and lag were gone when i switched the settings in the game menu. However, i couldn't cancel a text message or exit the program. When I switched back to the other settings, functionality returned but so did the keyboard lag.

Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
If you're running a CDMA device, there's a new 6.1 ROM released by dcd, who was my favored diety when I had a Titan. I can confirm no keyboard lag. You can find the thread, started by t0mmyr, here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=69754
Direct link to the ROM download location here: http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?dir=hermann/ And if you have a carrier other than Sprint, try downloading one of the carrier cabs from the Titan to force the data connection to work: http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?...%2Fcarriers%2F |
Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
I attempted to do an edit, but for some reason it kept stalling, even when I waited for 5+ minutes.
What I wanted to add was this: I ran this ROM for the better part of the day on my Sprint Touch Pro and loved it. I had to flash back to stock for some repairs. The only issue I had was the old "text messages not being flagged as read" bug. Which wouldn't surprise me if someone has a cab somewhere to fix that, but I didn't bother to do research. |
Re: Official Keyboard Lag Thread
I will second the fact that the DCD rom has all but solved my SMS keyboard lag!

This cab (posted on page 2 of this thread) that disables xT9 worked on my Touch Pro running Merdin's 5.1 ROM. Thanks so much! VERY minimal lag now. In fact I wouldn't even catagorize it as lag because in no way at all does it affect my typing. My typing used to outpace my phone's ability to display the letters and I'd have to stop for 5-10 seconds to let it catch up with me and thats gone now. Hooray! I think this did it! I also ran a cab a while back simliar to the one posted here on page 3 (I think thats where it is) of this thread that adjusts the initial delay and repeat rate settings but I never noticed any difference with that cab. |
