Updated (10 Mar) VGA Action Screen and Settings App V1
 

Thanks to Fabliv for the great application over at XDA, I just cleaned it up and added a few colors.

Thanks to gadgetfreak, Misfortune, popdog54, darren.wlsn1 and Fat Boy for helping and the inspiration to develop the action screens.

The action screen provides quick access to applications.

The left soft key will be mapped to "Action" and I have put a shortcut in the programs folder.


5 March 2005 Action Screen Settings application version 1

I know I said I was going to take some time off but I could not pull myself away from completing the Action Screen Settings application. Version 1 is released and if you have settings that need to be added please post them here. I rewrote the application so that it is very easy for me to add additional settings. :)

The GPS is not mapped to an application and I would have to have way too many CABs to satisfy everyone. So to map the GPS button to your GPS application make the following registry edit:

HKLM > Software > HTC > Biotouch > ActionScreen > APP_9 > Path (set this to your GPS exe)

The email button is mapped to the Exchange mail box. If you would like to change it to a different mail account make the following registry edit:

HKLM > Software > HTC > Biotouch > ActionScreen > APP_3 > Param
It is set to -service "ActiveSync" -to ""

Change the “ActiveSyne” to your mail account (POP, IMAP, Hotmail…).

There seems to be some interest in the application files, so here they are:

ASSettings.exe - %Windows%
HTCActionScreen.exe - %Windows%
HTCActionScreen.lnk - %InstallDir%
MMSLauncher.exe (if you want to use it) - %InstallDir%
OpenNETCF.Windows.Forms.SmartphoneDialogs.dll - %InstallDir%
ToggleBTh.exe - %InstallDir%
Wifi_ON_OFF.exe - %InstallDir%


All images (.brn) go into the %InstallDir%

The background file is named "AS_Bkgd_1.brn" and is 480 X 640

The press and focus images are 120 X 120

I have included the image files for the gray on color.

All files are in the ActionScreen.zip below.

I will be making some adjustments in moving the icons up a bit and will upload the new files when I am done.

You might want to add a link to XDA or post the files for this app. Once people start seeing these screen shots there are going to be requests for the application.

i think my vote is for the Action Screen - Gray_on_Color.cab ,,, great job here... can we add something to that top black bar... like maybe htc touch pro in a nice font... something so it isnt just a blank space

no its a small application that links to programs that u have,,, from your home screen u click on the left soft key to activate it

I have been working on setting up my action screen to match my tf3d set up... You can also set the "actions" to whatever you'd like... but the editing is tedious.. I'll post results later tonight.... My setup will be
New PicMail New Text TotalCommander
New Appt Rotate Screen New Note
Camera Capsure Toggle Bluetooth

Thanks.. I need your help a bit..
I can't get PictureMail to launch. I thought the MMSLauncher.exe was supposed to have been tweaked to work for SprintPictureMail... but I get a new text message instead...?? Help?
I also realize that Rotate Screen doesn't do anygood as an Action choice as the screen rotates immediately and doesn't stay... I'll go back to using it on the start menu... so I'll pic another program for that..

Does anyone know the param setting for the program CapSure to initiate "capsure now"?? so I press the action screen and it goes to capsure mode....

Anyway, here is a quick screen of my setup.. and my home page for the match.. see how the tone changed just a bit.. I am going to redo the focus/press selections because they turned out too messy...

Just to be sure, did you soft reset after making the reg. change?

Very cool and this will be a hit. It looks like you may be using 160 by 130 focus and press image. I moved to a 120 X 120 image as it was easier to align to the back ground. I also added another row in the reg so that the first icon did not start with the focus enabled.

I was thinking about that overnight... going to the 120x120 from reading your posts. Since the rotate screen doesn't serve for the Action Screen and I'm not able to get to a new picture mail (I do use the oem sprint pic mail and yes did the edit exactly as I've read and soft reset several times.. just no go.. I get to the choose an account screen but not new picmail window directly). I am going ot swap out those... I'm thinking I might do it commanager style instead also.. with just a single column and less apps.. it suits me though I know others have wanted more and more choices (hence 9up). I find myself duplicating the number of steps (IE: if i left the pic mail as is.. I'd be taking the same amount of steps as going to mail tab and starting new mail.. infact maybe MORE steps). Keep it simple! OK back to the drawing board.

OH.. could you post the reg edit you put to not include the first icon as selected?

So I just woke up, and I see a poll with 10 options on what to include on a 9 option app?

Oh well, the app is customizable through the registry. If anyone see's a customizer for HTC's action screen that helps you set the icons, program links, and names let us know!

OK... Here's what I ended up with.. I'm happy. TY for the reg to keep it from preselecting the first icon. I also made separate focus/press.. slight changes. I decided to go with 2 columns of 3 so I was not using a program/action that I could access in just as many steps already. Choices: New Text, New Appointment, New Note, New Photo, CapSure, Toggle Bluetooth

I am working on a application that will assist in the registry edits but the other stuff is rather complicated (converting bmps to brns).

i think u should swap the note and contact icons:

new contact has to do with communications... like email and sms
and note belongs with tasks and calendar...

and the bottom line is perfect.... what u think?

another suggestion of a action button would be a search button like using "Live Search".

with all the suggestions of different buttons maybe you want to make a 12 button action screen instead of a 9, this would certianly fit the screen nicer. he he, theres always someone willing for others to do more work.....today it happens to be me, sorry.

Try this and let me know if it works. It is only the registry edit to map the GPS button to google maps.(no files)

This is only for the version 1 action screen (assuming I am developing more... :) )
