File Sharing on the TP?

Is there a way to allow file sharing on the TP? I know with other computers that are on the same network you can set them up to share certain folders. The reason I'm asking is because if I download something for the phone on my laptop is there a way on the phone I can navigate to it through my wireless network and copy the app to my phone? This would eliminate the need for the cable... I only back up with Activesync maybe once a week and typically download new apps daily to fool around. I would rather download them to a shared folder and be able to pluck them off with the TP...

That would be a nice feature too. I rely on e-mailing files to myself and uploading stuff to my FTP and using Resco FTP explorer to retrieve/upload stuff. Sucks for larger files since it can take a bit to upload hahah.

Re: File Sharing on the TP?

It seems feasible... Not sure if there is a 3rd party app out there or not?

Re: File Sharing on the TP?

Using Wifi, If you already have your pc networked, what I do is open PIE and enter in the address bar "\\(computter name)" without the " and it will prompt you with the name/password of the pc...if you have no password word like I do just users, enter the user name and hit ok...and you are in.

Re: File Sharing on the TP?

Got IN! I am now setting up the folders I want to be able to view on the TP. My only question is that when I try and navigate back up a level I get a connection error. The only way to go back up is to start IE and start all over. Are you experiencing this as well? Is there some settings I should be adjusting?

Re: File Sharing on the TP?

yup that is one problem when using PIE and not a true filesharing program, if you dont close PIE, when you need to go back just close the "file explore" and just scroll down the history in the PIE and you are back in.

IF you get pretty good at it...it is not a big PITA as it sounds....I do it in a heart beat.

Re: File Sharing on the TP?

If your laptop is bluetooth enabled all you have to do is pair the phone and laptop then send files over bluetooth. No need to active/sync or otherwise.. just right click on file on either pc or phone and choose send via bluetooth. Simple and quick! Works the same as sharing files from phone to phone via bluetooth send.

Also check out the bluetooth file sharing program on the phone. I haven't used it since the above method is simple and straightforward.

Re: File Sharing on the TP?

Can can always d/l a 3rd party like "TotalCommander" (freeware) then it will let you be logged in and go back and forth dir wise within the shared pc, with no problems if being disconnected when navigating.
