Just check out the stickies in the upgrade section they tell you exactly how to flash step by step. As far as popular roms just read what they have on them flash one that looks interesting decide if you like or not flash again... Once you start you will never be satisfied with one anyway you will flash and flash and flash always looking for the perfect one and when you find it you will not know because someone will have done something new and you will want to try it...

Flash it, definitely.

I'm a newb, too, and I can tell you that 1) it's easy 2) it's awesome. I have the VZW touch pro and flashing has freed up so much memory on this baby =D
