Actually probably the opposite. Air is a terrible conductor of heat, and pockets of air would actually act as an insulator (this is why wearing big, fluffy jackets keeps you warm. it isn't the feathers and cloth that insulate you, they just are good at trapping air, and that insulates you, while keeping it lightweight).

What is really needed is ventillation, and that is why you can often get the TP to remain cooler by removing the back cover, and opening the slider, when using it.

Now if there were vents on the side that would allow passive ventillation, that might work, but then they'd also probably get clogged with lint from pockets, etc.

I also wonder if having this added space, it might be possible to add in a heatsink (basically a block of metal that is cut to efficiently dissipitate heat away from a source by increasing the surface area), but that would probably interfere with the radio signal.

Re: 3000 mah Extended Battery Pictures

how much extra room is available in the extended battery cover? as you state, that may offer an opportunity for more effective heat removal. also I wonder if the battery itself may have different characteristics from the HTC one that could improve the situation. i guess we won't know until some people start using the battery and provide feedback.

Do you mean a holster, or do you mean a different back door?

A holster that will fit the phone with the bigger rear door and battery installed.

Re: 3000 mah Extended Battery Pictures

I wonder if anyone will make a snap on rubberized cover to fit the back. I have one on my stock HTC TP now. It has saved my phone the couple times I have dropped it.

Re: 3000 mah Extended Battery Pictures

I have the Seidio and that seems big enough. I would like to see a side-by side comparison, but I'm also wondering how much heavier this makes the phone. As it is my phone is now just barely fitting in my car windshield mount thing. Any thicker and it would just fall through it!

Re: 3000 mah Extended Battery Pictures

Can someone post a picture of the inside of the battery cover? I am interested to know if i can store an extra regular battery and just buy the cover. Yes, I am that cheap.

Re: 3000 mah Extended Battery Pictures

This door configuration would probably leave enough room to hide a full size SD card unlike the post where someone cut the back out of the stock door to make one fit. Seems like it would be a great combo since the door is already big anyway..

Here ya go. There's a pic of the battery door with nothing in it, one with the mugen battery in it, and one with the battery and an AA battery in it, just so you can get the feel of how much space is actually in there.
