Re: Is there an easier way to edit a file from the windows directory?
I was editing a manilla file a few days ago to eliminate two tabs that I didn't want.
I connected with AS, browsed to the Windows directory & found the file. I then dragged it to my laptop desktop with a right click & told it to "copy here" I then opened the file in notepad, edited it & saved the changes & then copied it right back to the PPC Windows directory. The only thing that was time consuming in the whole procedure was waiting for the Windows folder to open.......... ~John |

Re: Is there an easier way to edit a file from the windows directory?
if you copy & paste them to an SD card on your phone then remove the SD card from your phone
now use a SD card reader via USB on your PC insert the SD card and then you will be able to copy those files to your PC{put them to the desktop for ease in locating} go to My Computer and you should see it under "devices with removable storage" you will be able to place wallpapers,ringtones,Mp3,cab files ect. on your SD card this way then reinsert the SD card into the phone & go to file explorer then SD card and there should be your files |

Re: Is there an easier way to edit a file from the windows directory?
OK, I just went to try again, and for some reason active sync won't recognize my device. I have the phone set to always ask whether I want to connect as disk drive or active sync - but it is immediately assuming disk drive. I am going to reboot my laptop.

Re: Is there an easier way to edit a file from the windows directory?
Well, now I feel pretty stupid.
I have no idea why my files weren't copying through active sync before. I'm not sure if I screwed something up when I tried to copy the whole windows directory or what. I think I may have screwed things up with spb backup - I think there's a problem with their 'sync backups to PC' - I got in an endless loop of errors from spb and had to soft reboot earlier. Anyway, once I rebooted my laptop, active sync worked much better. Thanks! |

Isn't there a Notepad-type program that we could install that would allow us to edit files ON the TP?

you can edit and copy the files within total commander.
personally i just keep a copy of my edited file on my SD card and copy it to \windows\ after every hard reset with tf3d disabled. |
