Re: Video Out - what can it do?

John, Sirius should work fine with either the Sirius or Asipro cabs. When you use Slingbox in your truck, I assume you are connected to the cigarette adapter. Do you find that the Pro continues to charge, or that Slingbox actually drains the battery even when connected to the power supply?

I have always used Sirius WM5 & it works perfectly, so I have never even tried anything else. I see no reason why it wouldn't work in my truck, I just haven't tried it as my truck has Sirius built in.

I use a Proclip in my truck & I wired it directly to the truck electrical system (it is live when I turn the key on), but that's really no different than using a cigarette lighter adapter. It must be getting at least a partial charge while running Sling Mobile. My Son & I took a trip last weekend that was almost 5 hours each way & watched NFL football the whole way there & back. There is NO WAY the TP can run Sling for 10 hours off the phone battery, so it must be benefiting somewhat anyway by being plugged in.

Re: Video Out - what can it do?

I have a program that converts movie files (*.mpg, *.avi, and some others) to a *.3gp file with flawless quality. Watched James bond and Batman on my phone the other day, but I wanted to get the cable, just was unsure of the quality.... When watching videos through Video-Out, what kind of quality do you get?

I wanted to know the same thing about quality with movies, as this is one of the main reasons that I want the cable.
Also, what program are you using to convert to .3gp? And is that the bet format for the TP?

I don't know if it's the best format, but I know that I've been using this since I had my i870 and the quality has always been dope. I used to watch music videos on there... my only problem is I don't know how it will look on the a TV screen with Video out.

Here is the link to the program. Real easy to use... drag'n'drop after you select the output folder. And I didn't install it, I just opened up the .exe file after I extracted the rar and it worked.

I just kept the link, I got it from NextelModz.com so I'm not taking credit for it, but I haven't been on that site in so long that I'm not sure who to give it to. But yeah, like I said... it works out really well, if you need any questions, hit me up on here or on aim.

Well in order to create a movie file that the TP can actually play smoothly (or even at all), you are going to have to limit the resolution to 640x480. Now I don't have a cable yet to speak from experience, but in other situations where I have seen video scaled up, you loose a lot of the quality fairly quickly. So I wouldn't have much in the way of expectations for TV out video.

On the other hand, browsing the web or reading email should be pretty good, I would think.

Actually, if you really want it to play perfectly smooth on the TP with its horrible video drivers you need to limit the resolution to half that & let it scale up to fit the screen.

Re: Video Out - what can it do?

I use SPB Mobile DVD and create 640x480 movies that I play with TCPMP at 25 FPS very nicely (using the best quality setting too)...no scaling necessary and everything plays very smoothly. The detail is excellent on the TP screen and sound is as good as any MP3.

I use SPB Mobile DVD also & you'll find the playback is noticeably smoother if you cut the resolution in 1/2.

I got the idea of trying that lowering of the res from a VERY long thread here about movie playback on the TouchPro. I thought the playback was perfect at 640x480 also until I realized it was even better if you cut it in half.

There is unfortunately some truth to this, and one of the biggest hurdles is that Coreplayer's QTv mode doesn't work with the TV cable. So you need to find something that will play well in Directdraw mode or another player. It is indeed somewhat difficult to keep the full 640x resolution, but it can be done if you experiment a bit with encoding and/or accept a slight performance hit from full fps.

For the OP: The limitations you speak of are related to the fact that TV-out forces landscape mode. So the Weather screen of TF3D would not be shown in landscape. Other than that, anything the phone displays and outputs via audio is sent to the TV.
