Better battery life - aGPS or QuickGPS?

Many folks seem quite happy with QuickGPS. Not being able to install it myself, I am not yet a believer that it does any good. But if the driver does indeed utilize the downloaded almanac than it would help with quicker locks. It also stands to reason that it should yield lower battery drain than aGPS. I believe aGPS requires a constant data connection while using GPS. Which means a) your phone is on and b) your data is on - both of which suck battery juice like a 7 year old sucks kool-aid. With QuickGPS you should be able to turn off the cellular radio. Or leave it on. Or listen to internet radio. Or whatever.

Any thoughts on this (other than "buy a car charger" )?

Under what circumstances would aGPS be a better solution than QuickGPS?

QuickGPS updates qualcomm chipset satellite map - xtra.bin...so yes it will reduce battery drain due to the non-dependency on agps.

Updating once a week is all that is needed. It don't matter if you goto Australia during that week. The update give you a trajectory map of the DOD and private Sat's active for global positioning.

AGPS does one thing QuickGPS don't. You can achieve Tower Triangulation.

Thanks, but same thing. If I click the QuickGPS.exe file in /Windows, nothing happens.

If I click the shortcut in Programs, I get that certificate error.

Sounds like I really wanna get this running, so any further help is appreciated.

I would assume that if I have achieved a conventional lock, the almanac downloaded conventionally would be saved somewhere, so why not as xtra.bin if QuickGPS works its magic by saving that almanac as xtra.bin. But I don't see said file anywhere on my device (recall, I don't have QuickGPS). Now if the almanac is stored in the GPS receiver memory (my thought) and QuickGPS saves the almanac as xtra.bin, how does xtra.bin get to the receiver? Does it know to look for xtra.bin as a possibly more recent download than what is in its own memory?

Anyway, the above is rhetorical - I don't have QuickGPS so I can't test it, and too many people swear by it for it not to work. I guess a hex edit trip through the GPS drivers could answer some of this...

qualcomm uses xtra.bin... i've never seen it but I know it's there...some "rocket scientist" over on xda schooled me on the GPS long ago... there is not doubt in my mind it exists... I even looked for it with qgps installed..
