Re: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

Has anyone been able to get this to work using AmazeGPS other than using a Sprint rom? I am using Scott's latest rom and can't seem to get it to work. I have been able to get Google and Live Search working fine.

Using HTC GPS Tool, I didn't need to set the chip (just left it on SIRF) and didn't need to do anything with SetMode, just cold start under Mode.

Non Stock ROM Problems

I have been playing with 4 different ROMs and may have a pattern when there is a problem. (Stock and Scott's 'original' have almost perfect 1st time success)

Using other 20931 cooked roms, I noticed that when I change the Location Setting, it appears to take, but I dont think it was.

My symptoms are:
1. A 'wait' cursor that does not disappear when I change between '911 Only' and 'Location On'. (Choose whatever is not set and pick the other)

2. The 'Location' symbol on the dialer pad is not actually changing.

-----

I noticed using regedit that the 'Location On' Reg entry was set to a 1 rather than a 0 as shown below.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\Locat ionSetting]
"ServiceDescExt"="but will not hide your general location based on the cell site serving your call. No application or service may use your location without your request or permission. GPS enhanced 911 is not available in all areas."
"ServiceDesc"="Turning location on will allow the network to detect your position using GPS technology, making some Sprint PCS applications and services easier to use. Turning location off will disable the GPS location function for all purposes except 911,"
"ItemMessageDesc2"=""
"ItemValue2"=dword:00000003
"ItemName2"="OFF"
"ItemMessageDesc1"=""
"ItemValue1"=dword:00000000
"ItemName1"="ON"
"ItemCount"=dword:00000002
"ServiceTitle"="Phone: Location Setting"
"ServiceName"="Location Setting"
After changing

"ItemValue1"=dword:0000001
to
"ItemValue1"=dword:0000000

I rebooted and still no success.

After running 'Advanced Config' and changing the 'Phone' to use the default Windows Dialer, then changing the 'Location On' (witout a waitcursor)

then reapplying the GPS patch steps finally allowed me to have success with my own and other ROMs.

It's working!

I want to post this for others in case they have similar problems as me. I am on the stock ROM with the phone locked. I followed the instructions in the first post and everything seemed to work except I wasn't getting any satellites fixed, just used. It seemed like the phone was always defaulting back to Baudrate of 57600 so i decided to try that. What do you know it worked! Satellites were fixed! I went into google maps and turned on GPS but to my dissapointment it didn't work. I went into the settings and changed the port to 4 and the Baudrate to 57600 and I got like satellites right away!

I know there have been a couple of questions if we need to run the GPS tool everytime. It seems like NO. I soft reset my phone then opened Google Maps and it worked!

So to sum it all up. Try Baudrate of 57600...

Thanks again Bored!!!

I had the exact same results. Hopefully, that first post can be updated with this information.

In HTC GPS Tool, you just need to select COM4/57600. Don't worry about the GPS type.

Ok, here are a couple things i know... Yoiu haved to change all settings to ruin on Com4. I run google maps, TT7, and live search and hgave a-GPS fixes everytime with my ROM. Same should be said for stock. My ROM has differnt drivers than most Custom ROMS because I ripped the drivers straight from the stock ROM. No one else did that. Maybe GC, but he just came out with it and havent hadtime to play with it.

You must activte usiong *22899 then apply fix on my ROM and reboot again. THEN TUrn on location setting.

I noted it really does matter WHEN you turn it on. You have to play the toggle on off game if you turn it on too early, like before the second PRL puupdate.

Another thing about it workgin on my ROM; MY Rom clears PPST each time it hardrests with the VZW PRL. THis means you are reverted back to Stock PRL each time you hard reset. You are applying the Bored PRL fresh on my ROM each time. Then when you apply the fix per posted instructions you will have a GPS lock in under 30 seconds. I am mroe than confident my ROM is letting it use aGPS as well as the stock ROM.

I am posting a simplied set up of this fix in my ROM. llllBoredllll and i came to a mutual agreement that I would package up his technology in my next ROM so all users would have a garunteed simplified install. I am alomst done so if your struggling to get this to work I haved a one size fits all solution. I just need to confirm it works on multiple flashes so I will be flashing it a few times then posting the instructions in a sep thread if anyone is interested. I need to ruin and get breakfast though... Hehehe... long night working on this last night.

Its nothing super special but it makes this easier and its perfectly reproducable.

Re: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

Ok I've read through a bunch of these posts and things need to be clarified.

1. As long as you're using a Verizon PRL, you are not roaming. Even if it says Sprint as your banner, you are not connected to Sprint in any way. All it is, is just that, a banner. It's set by PPST when you update the PRI. You can change it to whatever you'd like via service programming in QPST. There's a temporary registry key that gets reset after every soft reset also that controls the banner (hence why the Personalizer app uses a mortscript that gets placed in \Windows\Startup). You don't have to worry about roaming charges or being affiliated with Sprint.

2. You are not using aGPS whatsoever unless you program your device to use it in QPST and then set the appropriate registry keys. These registry keys are not set for you on any stock rom. I'm not sure if scrosler's rom sets these keys for you as I have not used it, though my carrier cab does when you install it after flashing my rom. Again, you need these reg keys AND your device programmed correctly in QPST to use Verizon's PDE server (aGPS).

I finally got it to work using Scott's ROM. Hells Yeah!!!! I remember reading someone asked if any VZ Navigator subscribers have gotten it to work. I currently am subscribed and it is working. I am about to cancel the subscription and see if it still works.

Both Scott and Bored rock!!!

EDIT:
I went online and canceled my VZ Navigator subscription and Google Maps and Live Search both still work. I opened up VZ Navigator to check the subscription and it would not allow me to connect. Looks like the fix works great!!!

I was able to get some satellite fixes last night but am unable to get any this morning. I'll try again tomorrow but this is just being a huge pain in the butt for me right now.

I'm using the stock ROM with this fix and am able to find a few satellites but none actually get fixed. Tried when I was on the road today and no success their either. It's annoying how for me it's hit and miss (last night it worked, today it's not).

You most likely need to program your device to use aGPS as like I said, the stock rom doesn't do for you.

If you have a data plan try the AGPS fix linked in the first post. Make sure you read both the first post here and the linked wiki page. There's one minor difference in the port assignment. Make sure you follow the steps on the wiki to an exact.

It will not be roaming, it will just look like its roaming. When you dial *228 you're still getting to VZW, not Sprint. So its not roaming.

Everyone is suggesting I try it however...I can't. You did not link to the Wiki from what I could see and the QPST link is dead, can't attempt anything if I can't get the tools

EDIT: Wll I just tried again and managed to get it to work, although took me over 60 seconds to get a fix on a sattelite - hopefully it will stay working :)

Re: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

I have one question about this (and it could be a stupid one so bear with me). I noticed a lot of people worried about roaming. My plan says it includes "no domestic roaming charges" as a feature. In the case that this gps fix does mean that we will be roaming, I wouldn't have to pay any fees would I? I just thought that others might be on the same plan as me and the answer to my question might ease peoples thoughts (if we dont get hit by the fees of course).

Please read completely. I really don't want to have posts asking about things stated in this post.

First and foremost.... This fix is to be considered beta at the present time. I WILL NOT be held responsible for any damage to your device or any charges from you carrier if you happen to be in roaming because of this.

I have successfully unlocked VZW's TP GPS. Please realise I'm still testing and tweaking the PRI to get the last little bugs out.

Here we go :grin:

1. download lllboredlll VZW GPS Fix.cab and put on your storage card
2. install cab but don't soft reset after
3. use gsfinder or total commander to navigate to \windows\ppst.exe
4. execute ppst.exe and go thru the prompts
5. reset your device as needed
6. make sure you location is turned on and enjoy

AT THIS PRESENT TIME I'D SUGGEST NOT DIALING *228 AFTER THIS FIX IS APPLIED. IT WILL UPDATE THE MODIFIED PRL AND SHOW THAT YOU ARE ROAMING.
IF YOU DO YOU CAN SIMPLY REAPPLY THE FIX TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

All navigation software might not work so you may need to open the port with HTC GPS tool that I attached. Settings are Q7500 chip 4800 buad and cold start. I don't have AGPS configured because this thing locks in 2 seconds. There is no need for a data connection to assist when the results are that dang fast.

If you need to go back to the OEM PRI I have attached it aswell. Just go thru the same steps as far as installing and then ppst.exe

If you take my research and improve on it all I ask is that you atleast give me credit for the discovery. I've spent a ton of hours working with NV files and PRI's.

Hope everyone enjoys..... :D

A special thanks goes out to GC14 for his roaming fix. Thank you very much.

Project Update: Phase II should be done within the next day or two. I'm not going to elaborate on what it will be at this time but I'm gonna put a cool spin on things for us VZW users.

Any chance we'd be able to get ya to work on this for the Samsung Omnia SCH-i910? Been waiting forever at http://www.modaco.com/content-page/2...p-us/page/580/ and they haven't had any luck.

Thanks!
