Re: UPDATED: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

SWEET!!! I finally got it to work! After turning on my location in the phone settings I decided to retry running the .cab fix and rerunning the PPST file. I went back into GPS Tool, set the settings and opened the port then voila!!! Found 6 satellites! Then I ran Google maps and IT FOUND EM! YEA! Thank you so much to all involved with my enabling GPS on my phone! It makes my $300 just that much more worth it. Some donations are definately deserved!

It's all good. It's working. I never did get any prompts of any sort form running PPST but it is working.

Why does my phone say sprint in the top right of the upper curtain?

Does this work on a locked phone? I haven't unlocked mine yet because I'm still trying to get a hang of all this and I don't want to screw something up.

My phone is not unlocked. It took me a bit but now it works famously!

I think this fix is so great it needs to be on a permanent sticky. Anyone else have the same thought?

SO my question is this.

Since this is a hardware thing, after following these steps if i flash to a different rom i do not have to do it again correct?

I've applied the patch to my VZW Touchpro, running the nexvision 'beta1' ROM, but have not been able to get a fix. The output in the test app window has a bit of data, but it never reports a fix.

With the 'post gc info' cab my phone is on verizon but says Sprint.

I guess I wonder what is on your GPSone page, or any other feedback to help me acheive the same success as others.

Thanks

Interesting - I'm running the Nexvision ROM, and unfortunately I can't get it to work either. Following all installation steps, setting up so location always on, in external gps prog port com4, hw port none, 4800, mng gps auto. Any ideas for me? Thx!

Am I the only one that clicks on the phone setting and doesn't have the locations setting?

Re: UPDATED: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

When I first tried to install the fix, I looked through \Windows\ with Total Commander and I couldn't find a ppst.exe so I assumed the PPST attachment from lllboredlll was the file I needed and installed it. I followed the instructions completely, my location settings are LOCATION ON, and I ran HTC GPS Tool and opened the port with the suggested settings, but I am still not getting a lock on any satellites. Any suggestions?

Bored - u are totally f**king AWESOME....Santa's on his way right now....GC too (u accept donations? if so where?)!

I actually took it out for a drive with OCN8 (which is a must have KILLER app BTW) It worked flawlessly but there is a slight delay when it needs to re-calc route (about a block or so before it re-directs you & this didn''t happen with bTooth recvr) Speaking of which ---any fix for this delay??

Becuase Bored hacked teh sprint PRI. Therefore its sprint branded. It doesnt bother me the least. It should be purely cosmetic.

I backed off to a different ROM, and had success - I was using the Beta1, but I switched to one of the scrosler ROM's and at least know my phone aint broke!

OK, cool, so we know there is an issue w/using this in conjunction with NexVision's ROM. Bored, any idea is to why there seems to be a problem with that combination?

using stock vzw rom
followed the instructions
now showing "sprint" on taskbar(?)
can't open port when using HTC GPS Tool, hence no satellite lock
is there something i missed or should do?

also, what is the reason for PPST1.46.cab? is it run when running ppst.exe? i put it on my storage card but did nothing with it.

Thanks in advance!

MAD PROPS TO BORED ONCE AGAIN! I highlighted his accomplishments on my website, like I discussed with him in PM, to get this as much exsposure as quickly as possible! www.scottcrosler.com

At first I was afraid it was your rom, must have been a regedit I did because all I did was a hard reset, OTA, installed the fix before anything else and now its working perfect. So its not your ROM, and to everyone else if all else fails hard reset and install the GPS fix 1st..

Re: UPDATED: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

WOOOOOOOT!!! It works! Although I still can't get Remote Tracker to use the GPS (but that's for another thread).

Regarding the "Sprint" text showing on the home screen, I remember seeing an app that lets you customize what it says in that section, but I can't remember what it is. I'm sure it can be found in this "Post your today screen" thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=41350

Many people towards page 30+ have customized their top texts.

This is some great work.

Which file is the OEM PRI?

So basically, if I want, I should easily be able to go back to the original way?

Also, worst case, should a hard reset fix anything this screws up?

PPST1.46.cab is VZW's original PRI incase you need to roll it back for any reason.

OEM is PPST1.46.cab .... you would install it like you did the gps fix cab then your device would be back to stock

Are you setting it up properly

Q 7500 chip
Cold Start
4800 Baud

Also get near a window or outside. At times that makes a huge difference even though I get locks inside of my 2 story house.

all i did was reinstall the cab and rerun the ppst.exe after i had turned location on and now it works, strange

Re: UPDATED-2: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

I have a few questions, I hope they're not much of a nussiance to answer:

1) Must I use HTC GPS Tool everytime I want to use GPS to open to port or is it a set and forget type of deal?
2) With Location On rather than 911 only will that lower the battery life/increase consumption?
3) Since I'm new to GPS on a Pocket PC or even a phone for that matter, is GPS only enabled when asked to be with this hack? (as to preserve battery life).

EDIT: Finding satellites with HTC GPS Tool but not fixing, guess I'm in a bad location right? I'll just try another day, using Stock ROM - able to find satellites but get not fix in my house or immediately outside of it. Too late for me to go outside in the freezing temp and snow

EDIT 2: Was able to fix on some sattelites after being patient although Google Maps is stuck on Initalizing GPS and says the no GPS receiver was found after about 60 seconds of waiting (tried re-installing and still not coming up with any success. I can lock in with HTC GPS Tool but when I try to run google maps after a fix is made it won't initialize the GPS)
