Part of this is off-topic - my apologies, but since the question was asked...

I've played around with the Windows Mobile security policy settings - that's how I reached the conclusion that it isn't a security problem but something the application is seeking that wasn't installed and isn't in my stock ROM.

For reference, a good write-up of the WM6 security model and policies can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa455966.aspx

Each security policy ID (given as a decimal value) corresponds to a key under HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies (intentional duplication of the word Policies). The key itself is a 32b hex (so for example security policy ID 4102 (Unsigned Applications Poilcy) corresponds to key 00001006. The value of the key is typically an enable/disable (0 or 1), possibly a range of values (0, 1, 2) or a bitmask corresponding to approved roles. The roles can be found in the same write-up.

If I set policy 4102 to 0 (prevent unsigned applications from running) then the QuickGPS application won't even start. Nor will Total Commander or several others. Setting it to 1 allows QuickGPS to give me the component missing error.

As with any RegEdit - you can get yourself into trouble. Playing with security policies can break applications or worse, lock you out of your device even though it is booting fine. Make sure you can active sync, and I recommend an off-line registry editor such as CERegEdit. Whatever you do don't set policy 4133 to 0 - as long as this is 1, you shoudl be able to undo a security policy mistake from your remote registry editor.

First off....I don't need a lesson in registry construction... secondly this thread isnt about QuickGPS or registry issues with applications... thirdly I told you it was most likely your ROM... if it isnt that then you got the wrong copy of QuickGPS....last but not least....long involved posts don't make you an expert... so please stop trying to glorify yourself by doing so... there are 53 pages of post in this thread and it's getting hard for people to dig information out due to this.... if you're not posting about how to get the GPS Fix to work or posting about having issues/success ... then you are most likely in the wrong thread

Its very strange, i am now getting a roaming triangle. i have been using the latest fix without any problems in the zip code 93101. I just traveled to zip 92024 and now have a roaming triangle. i have never had a roaming triangle here before and 3 other vzw phones are running normal. I am using GC's kitchen 1.5 i believe it is and re-applied the ppst gps fix which I know is the correct one. No big deal really, just thought it was strange.

I use Garmin Mobile XT and that works good for me. But if your looking for something for free, I like Google Maps or Live search.

I think I asked this before and sorry for being an idiot.

1> What is aGPS?

2> Depending on the answer to number 1, how do we know aGPS isn't working?

If it has to do with how well/fast the program locks satellites, then I would think it's already working as fast as it's been locking. When outside I get 6 satellites in maybe 5 seconds but then again I 'm closer to the equator than most of america.

aGPS means assisted GPS. "Very often cellular network towers have GPS receivers (or a base station nearby) and those receivers are constantly pulling down satellite information and computing the data. This data is then sent to the cellular phone (when requested) and acts like a “cheat” since the relevant satellites to your location are already identified and all that GPS computations is handled by 3rd party computers."

As far as I know aGPS isnt working with the Verizon TP right now. Bored is still working on that.

Hi Bored,
I know this is a little off topic here, but I was just wondering if, in you file searches about Verizon GPS, you happened to stumble on anything related to a 2nd camera (basically a webcam or video conference cam) that should be located just above the display....I know that the HTC specs call for it, but I don't know if Vz omitted it.....

Thanks,
Bob

the camera physically isn't there, why would you want the code?

by the way, what language is the PRI written in?

I was hoping that the camera was there, but just disabled, like they did with the GPS SIRF Chip. Looking at the screen, it sure looks like it is there, to the left of the speaker. Something is there, but I can't tell what it is.

I don't know anything about the PRI language....I rely on smarter people here for that

Two offended users in one thread in a matter of two days...

I would not presume to educate you on the WM6 security model or registry. The post was in response to failing to get QuickGPS to work on my device and why. I proposed that QuickGPS does nothing for the driver on this particular phone. Dimitri countered so I decided to try it but failed. I posted what I tried in case someone else in a similar situation wants to try. I wrote a "long self-glorifying post" so that someone less experienced who may try didn't have to go looking for some basic info.

Point taken on long posts in long threads.

Personally, it's not worth the effort to pursue the QuickGPS problem, but if someone else with a stock ROM gets it to work I'll try again.

Your PRI is working for me, and I assume that if you crack the aGPS challenge then that will render the QuickGPS discussion moot anyway.

Hi bored,
I just posted this for Scott in his thread... He replied that i should ask you about the implications... What do you think?

"hi scott
great work with all of this... i've been using your 2.0 rom on both of my verizonized sprint phones for about two weeks... they are working great! i have a question though... i want to try your latest either the 3.0 beta or the stable 2.2... which should i go for? is the beta 4 going to be released soon? do you see any issues i might have on my sprint version with the bored fix now fully integrated? in the 2.0 rom i just didn't enable the fix after flashing and of course the gps is already unlocked... i will say that i do notice a very slow startup for the gps part of the phone although when it does get going it works fine... i haven't done anything to modify it... do you think the bored fix will improve things on the sprint phone? i'm not exactly sure what it does but figure it has something to do with the assisted gps functions... anyway, thx again and sorry to bug..."

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I'm hoping to make it a selectable integration within the kitchen...ofcourse his ROM will most likely have it cooked in....people say my fix works on the verizoned sprint tp but there will be a roaming indicator... I'm not sure why that really dont make sense to me....the device is programmed for vzw....I would think it would actually help having my PRI but so far that's not what I hear...I wish I had a sprint tp to mess with....

superdupe 01-02-2009 10:02 PM

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

well, i will be trying out Scott's latest and since the fix is cooked in, i guess we will see... Ya, i agree that if you have a custom pri, then when you update the prl there should be no roaming indicator... anyway, i'll let you know once i try it... fyi, when i converted my sprint over to the verizon network i had the roaming indicator like everyone else... what fixed it was applying the custom prl modified for the sprint pri that "BroMarduk" created...

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=50076

so that being said, since you have a custom verion pri in your fix then all should be well and when i update there should be no roaming indicator... at least thats what i think should happen... maybe the people using you fix also used the custom prl and need to get back to the stock version...thanks again for all your work :)

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

a stock vzw device wont show a roaming indicator once you apply the fix then program via *228.....on the sprint device they are getting the indicator isn't showing because the PRL they published has the indicator disabled or the PRL renamed to a sprint #... i've seen it done both ways

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I bought the TP just a few days ago from Verizon. I left the Verizon store with the impression that I could just run Google Maps and a Pocket PC version of Delorme's Street Atlas USA on it.

Only after a couple of days fiddling with the settings did I discover that the GPS was disabled by Verizon. ](*,)

I got up this morning with the intention of returning to the store and making a big ruckus while returning the phone.

At the last minute I Googled the phone and found this site.

God bless you all and especially Bored. You may have saved a saleperson's life and kept me out of jail.

All I had to do was install the GPS fix v.2 and HTC gps utility and everything thing is flawless. The banner still says Verizon and the EV indicator is still there.

I'm going to reinstall Street Atlas USA and start a thread on how well this works with the Delorme GIS products I've been using for years with my old IPAQ and gps card.

Thanks again (yes , I clicked the button)
Looking forward to v3 with aGPS.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I know there was some discussion about QuickGPS earlier in this thread.

I live in Brooklyn NY and have had run into some major problems getting the GPS to work in under 5 minutes. I was using HTC GPS Tool and it was taking forever to get locks on any sats. I espescailly was unable to get any locks while in my apartment.

I have been running scrolsers Version 3.0 VZNAV |||bored||| edition and he has cooked QUickGPS into the ROM. I launched and let it update. Afterwards, I ran the HTC GPS Tool and I was able to lock on 7-9 sats within 90 seconds in my apartment.

I am wondering if there is anyone else in the city that can confirm that QuickGPS works for them like it did for me?

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

bored, thank you for this, it works great.

I have a slight problem, I have a verizonized sprint touch pro. Unfortunately, I ran your PPST step but I don't think it was necessary. The result is my banner is totally dead. I have reflashed PRL and even reinstalled my verizon rom, but it stays the same. Is there something I can change to get it back how it was?

-Dan

---------------------------edit-------------------------------

I got it working. But first I made it worse. I tried activating my old phone and coming back. But the new PRI installed by bored's CAB prevented me from reactivating! Finally I got a compatible PRI on there by installing:

Hermann_C_SPRINT_WWE_1.03.651.4_RS1.03.15F_SPCS_1. 53_0909_PRL60613_Ship.exe (sprint shipped rom for touchpro) (actually at this stage my phone activated without me even running *228 again!) and then
RUU_Raphael_C_VZW_WWE_1.03.605.4_Opera2392_RS_6150 21_VZW_1.03.03V_1.46_51064_Ship.exe (verizon leaked rom) (for curious, NO, you cannot skip the sprint ROM. The verizon ROM does not restore the PRI, I only installed it because that's what I wanted on the phone)

At that stage I had to restore a couple of the verizonizing settings (read: things editable in QPST must be rechecked) for everything to work. But the PRI was fixed. So apparently the Sprint ROM restores the Sprint PRI.

So, for a verizonized Sprint TouchPro, to get GPS, do the following:

1.

open QPST, go to gpsone, change to following:
ip: 66.174.95.132
port: 8888
pde transport: ip
position calculation: pde

2. install bored's cab file

Do NOT run PPST.exe. First, it hoses your banner so it is always blank (not a big deal). Worse, it prevents you from reactivating or reprogramming your phone with Verizon. If you do it, follow the above procedure to restore to a valid PRI.

-Dan

Oh sorry, I should've read the thread more carefully. I assumed it would work on a VZW TP since I have it with Scotts (scrolser (sp?)) new ROM 3.0 beta - he's releasing the final in a little bit so you might want to update to that. He's got the best ROM for VZW TP's IMO and I highly recommend custom ROMS on the VZW TP

Hardly anything gets broken. Scott's ROM is a must-have or atleast a must-try. I'm really glad I did and nothing I used was broken at all - very little actually gets broken with custom ROMs unless it's on purpose ;) You can always revert back to the stock if you find the custom ROMs don't suit you (although they should ;) ).
