There are definitely drastic differences between phones. My boss bought a new TouchPro from Best Buy the first day they where available. That phone was the biggest pile of garbage I have ever seen & he returned it for a refund a week later (he has a Blackberry now). That TP had every single problem listed on these boards & then some. It got smoking hot with very little use, the hardware KB didn't work right, the case was coming apart two days after he got it, it was HORRIBLY laggy, the ear-piece was virtually unusable etc etc etc etc

My boss is just a regular guy (not a geek at all) & he simply wanted a phone that worked out of the box (he got that with the Blackberry) with no fixes/tweaks etc etc

I knew the TP's couldn't all be as bad as his, so I decided to give one a shot also. I have Verizon service (I dropped Sprint after two years of AWFUL service/coverage etc) but was not going to buy the gimped vz version of the TP. I crossed my fingers, hoped for the best & bought a Sprint TP off ebay from a seller with thousands of positive feedbacks & activated it on vz with the leaked vz ROM.

The 2 phones could not be any more opposite, the one I got from ebay is absolutely perfect. The ear-piece is fine even without a new audiopara, the hardware buttons are perfectly flush, the phone gets warm but not alarmingly hot etc etc etc etc. I have tweaked the hell out of it, but nothing I have done is a "fix" really, I have just customized it to my liking.

I use a ton of data, my GPS & Sling Mobile work just fine etc etc. Really the only complaint I have about the phone is the awful battery life but I expected that. I have two USB cradles (one at home & one on my desk at work). The cradles will charge the phone & an extra batt simultaneously & I have three extra Seidio batteries so I always carry a spare.

Re: All pro versions and heat!!!

I have a best buy TP that I bought the day it was released (Oct 23 I believe).

My phone gets hot when running WMWifi Router and Charging, or using Garmin and Charging.

Nowhere near as hot as some of you all make it seem. I know those two instances make the phone warm, so I just started to slide out the Keyboard when using the phone that way and now it doesnt warm up at all.

No exchanges, still on TP number 1, and I am on a stock rom.

I've never had the phone warm up on me while charging with a car charger (500ma) and talking.

Wonder whats different with my phone.....

Re: All pro versions and heat!!!

From what I can tell, the overheating issue is related strictly to the cellular radio. I have had the device get nice and hot playing a video from SD and charging at the same time, with no overheat taking place. It was every bit as hot -- in fact, hotter -- to the touch than when I have had the overheat issue while streaming video.

I'd guess HTC would like to know, too!

I had half a dozen 5-10 minutes calls yesterday and some text messages. So a pretty light day. My battery meter showed 89% when I plugged it in. Not sure why I bothered plugging it in, actually. The battery life on my new TP just seems to be getting better and better, for some reason.

Re: All pro versions and heat!!!

My first two TP were not so good even with those tweaks and hacks. My third tp is totally different phone its like they forgot to put something in first two and just shipped like that..no more static when on the phone, no heating issue and don't need any hacks to increase performance. Even the battery is awesome holds good charge like my mogul (ya really). its just damm fast when your browsing or scrolling tf3d or have multiple apps open its very different from my first two tp very noticeable really surprise.

Re: All pro versions and heat!!!

now The gave me a new battery, it seems not to get as hot as it did before, so Now I'ma goin to test and see if it stops charging....BOOTLEG FIX: take off battery cover and place you hand over the battery....you body absorbs the heat and battery keeps charging!

Any word on if that fixed the issue? Mine gets hot too and stops charging. I just got my seido extended battery in the mail and i'm using it now. All the TP's in my area are on backorder, so I will need to wait for new ones to come in stock.

I have a roadtrip planned for friday, where i'll be using the GPS full time for about 4 hours each way. I'll tell you guys how it works out for me.

Re: All pro versions and heat!!!

I'd like to know if there really are differences between older and new phone models and the way it overheats. Can anyone verify there's a big difference in overheating?

My phone overheats for the same reasons and software that Sporklover listed just a few posts above. I can't use it more than a couple of hours before it dies from lack of charging even when it's ON the charger!

Does anyone know what a good solution is?

Re: All pro versions and heat!!!

I've got a newer model TP, (build date 12\09\08 ) it overheats on calls of 15 minutes or more or when streaming for extended periods (when I say "overheats" I mean it stops charging due to the thermal protection circuitry.
