Selecting Contacts w/ Email

Ok i have a little bit of a problem. i have about 7 steves in my phone and when im selecting the contacts to send to in my email it shows all of the steves at the bottom of the screen and i can go left to right to select the right one. but i dont want to have to do that everytime, when im typing in the name i can get all the way to steve and when i press the space bar it just puts the first steve in there, is there any way around having to scroll all the way to the one i want?! thanks for your help guys.
