Anyway to Silence/Mute When Incoming SMS/MMS/Email Arrives?

Does anyone know how to silence the alert when receiving messages? I know when an incoming call arrives you can press the volume toggle and it silences the ringer. I am looking for something like that. When I receive a text/pic/email message it will play all the way through until the song is done. Would be nice to be able to silence that when I wanted it. As of now I would either have to keep the phone on vibrate/silent or use a shorter ringer. Just looking for other options. Thanks.
