Anyway to Silence/Mute When Incoming SMS/MMS/Email Arrives?

Does anyone know how to silence the alert when receiving messages? I know when an incoming call arrives you can press the volume toggle and it silences the ringer. I am looking for something like that. When I receive a text/pic/email message it will play all the way through until the song is done. Would be nice to be able to silence that when I wanted it. As of now I would either have to keep the phone on vibrate/silent or use a shorter ringer. Just looking for other options. Thanks.

Sorry I guess I should have explained better. I can set the ringer as silent so that nothing plays when I receive a message. What I am looking for is a way TO SILENCE it when it starts playing. Pressing the volume rocker to silence the notification just like when an incoming call is received would be ideal. TIA.

You do know that when recieving an incoming call you can just turn the phone face down and it silents..right?
I dont know if SMS/MMS/EMAILS..uses the light sensor this way...

mine dont, and i think op said no also. only when call comes in.

It doesn't silence the SMS/MMS/Email notifications while being placed face down. When I am work, I keep the phone on my hip via holster/pouch and when I am interacting with a customer it would be nice to quickly silence it by a press of the volume rocker. (Or anyway actually) Like I said earlier, right now it will play to whole song so I either have to keep it on silent/vibrate or use a shorter alert. Thanks.

This isnt a direct solution to your problem.
But for SMS/Emails etc. why not use a chime or quick sound instead of song ?

Im sure youve thought of that but in the meantime its better than getting interrupted.

Thanks. Yeah that would be the only option right now. Using a shorter type of ring or keeping it on silent/vibrate. I was just wondering if anyone had a way to mute/silence the ring sound when a message was received. Reg edit, app, etc???

I would also like a solution to this. I have always had beef with the fact that WM doesn't have this ability. Perhaps software like SPB has a solution?

I have dreamweaver and it doesn't have anything like this

I use SPB and nothing so far for this solution. I was looking for the same thing today and I wish I could do it too.
