NEW SMS - showing 1

My new SMS indicator is stuck at 1. All of the messages have been deleted - however it still shows 1. When I recieve a new message it goes to 2 however in the inbox it still only has the one message. I have tried a soft rest as well as a power down. It still shows 1. All of my recieve functions are set to automatic. I have even tried toggling the different radios on and off under the comm manager. Anyone else have this problem? or know how to fix it?
