Re: TP with MicroSD HC (high capacity)

I have a 16gb micro sdhc sandisk card that i bought from Best Buy. My card was working fine with no lag when i first got it. A few weeks ago when i was in Houston i noticed my phone started to lag alot. The lag was ridiculous actually and everyday it started getting slower and slower. At first i though it was my rom but when i reflashed and still was having the lag problem i knew it wasn't the phone. So i took my storage card out and BAM the phone worked perfectly with no lag at all.

When i put the card back in and tried to view the files via file explorer it would take my phone like 5 minutes to pull up the info on the card. When i would try to listen to music the phone would freeze and i would have to restart. Whenever i tried to copy something to the storage card or install a program to the storage card i would get an error message. Also whenever i would try ro connect to a computer via mass storage i would get an error on my pc.

So I took my phone into sprint and they tried to tell me that the phone might say that it can support 16gb cards but it really doesn't. He said that i should try an 8gb card. I made the argument that if it could handle an 8gb card that it should handle a 16gb card with no problem because they use the same technology which is sdhc. 16gb just has more space obviously. He said well you should just try an 8gb card and it should be fine. He argued that he tried the stock 1gb card and it worked with no problem.

So i took my phone and went over to best buy and got a replacement card. Which sucked because i couldn't get any of my stuff i had saved on my card. When i got my replacement card it worked again no problem. But after a couple of days i noticed something. Whenever i would take my card out, or put it back in, it felt like the card was scratching up against something. I looked at the bottom of my card and there were definitely scratches on my storage card.

I believe that this is what happened to my other storage card. I think the card had gotten scratched up so badly that the phone was having a hard time reading the info on the card which is why it was taking so long to load, or not loading at all in some cases. I don't know if this is just a problem i was having but i am going back to the sprint store today and they are definitely giving me a replacement phone and i am not accepting anything less. I would also like for them to purchase me a new 16gb card with no scratches because the phone has caused the damage to my card and as advertised this card should work with my phone no problems. I hope this helps some of you but i pray that this is just my issue because this would be terrible if all of the touch pro's would eventually destroy our memory cards. Please let me know if any of you have noticed any similar problems.

I took a close look at my memory card and there were minor scratches on the contacts. I don't know if that had any effect on the reading/writing abilities but enough to warrant an exchange through NewEgg.com. After speaking with the CS representative, she informed me that they were out of stock of the cards that I purchased. So she credited back the purchase price and told me to keep the card. Woohoo!

Wow, talk about lucking out there. All SD cards I've ever owned develop scratches on the contacts. Any device that connects in this manner, including usb plugs, will develop scratches from the normal mechanical contact between it and the contact points in the device they're plugged into. :confused2:

I think I'll have you call Newegg for me next time I have an issue with something I buy from them, you must have a magic touch I surely don't have! :laughing6:

Newegg has one of the best customer services out there. If it's reasonable and you ask nicely, they will definitely work with you.

That's what I've heard. I actually never had to return anything to them, even though I've bought open box things various times. I'm just saying it's amazing that they said "here's a refund... and keep the card too!", especially when nothing is wrong with the card. But I guess it is such a small priced product, and this gesture will ensure future business.

I remember one time I had to return a defective product. I had to pay for shipping to return the thing. i emailed customer service and they gave me a refund on the shipping AND gave me a 15% off coupon on my next purchase. :headbang:

Those speeds are a minimum. A class 6 card can perform much faster than 6mb.

Interesting find... It makes sense, actually.

Well, I know I'm going to stop removing my card from now on! I'll just use the USB cable.

I don't see the need to add/remove the SD card all that much? I guess people use adapters that plug into the PC to transfer files? I'd rather just leave it in there and transfer through USB. Such a pain to remove the back panel and take the card out. Like the previous poster said, it damages the card. I had that happen on a pci-e slot on my motherboard of my PC. The card was so big I had to pull it out anytime I did anything and it eventually wore down the slot and didn't recognize the video card anymore :(

Has anyone had any experience or opinions on A-Data or Transcend brands of Micro SDHC cards? SanDisk is about double the price for 8GB. I'm willing to get the SanDisk if it is really that much better, but would obviously prefer to pay less.
