Active Sync & Windows Live Mail

Does anyone know if Active Sync is compatible with the new Windows Live Mail Program? Reason I ask is because ever since I have down loaded Windows Live Mail on my PC, I have no use for MS Outlook for the exception of backing up all my contacts & calendar.
