Re: Can This Be Done
You can't do it wifi,
Most garage door openers do not operate anywhere near that frequency. It would take some extreme hackage to make it work, even if it did fall in the range. Unless you have a specan and know a good deal of radio theory as well as know how to do device driver development on winmo you are out of luck. Give it up. |

Re: Can This Be Done
You can get X10 home automation stuff for DIRT cheap on ebay. All you need is a PC, and you hook up the control module, and then you would wire up your garage door. Since a lot of doors are different, I am not 100% sure how you would wire that up. I think a lot of them are specifically built to work for home-automation, but the older ones you might have run a wire and solder it inside the unit somewhere. Can't be THAT hard. Maybe an hour, including the time it takes to pull down your unit.

Re: Can This Be Done
I hope more key fob projects are started with WM bluetooth phones. It would be cool to walk near your car and because you're carrying YOUR phone the doors unlock at the push of a button and you can start your car via push button on dash (because you have your phone in your pocket) and off you go. Would work the same way Nissan is doing in their cars with the key fobs only via bluetooth instead of RFID. Only problem is you'd have to do a physical mod to your steering column to bypass the wheel locks. That part is electric in the nissans but most cars have manual steering column locks where you can't turn the wheel until a physical key is inserted and turned.

Re: Can This Be Done
What software do have loaded to use your phone with your X10? I can't find a decent PPC app for X10 anywhere.

Re: Can This Be Done
Revisiting the question.
I see that blackberry's can do this now: http://blackberrysync.com/2009/01/us...r-garage-door/ or http://unify4life.com/ I'd love to see this be able to be done with our TP. Even if some additional minor hardware was needed for the garage door opener, it would be well worth it. |

Re: Can This Be Done
I still vote for an (X-10)-like system... You run the control software on a PC, and then you can remote into it over the web. Control whatever you like. To do it based on GPS would be a hell of a task, and WIFI will not connect until you're practically in your driveway already--making this pretty pointless, IMO.
