Yeah... Go into a corporate Sprint store and explain your situation... Ask them if they could resolve the situation... Be polite and professional... It always helps... Ask them exactly why they say you have a bad ESN, and how the issue can be corrected... You never now, they might be able to help you out...

lol bad esn Sprint wont help you at all. For one main reason they dont have replacement phone to help some fool who brought a bad phone. Good luck try selling the parts on craigs list.

Will Smartphonetracker work if the thief erases all files on the phone? What if they load another rom? This seems to be a great program if there aren't any workarounds.

Nope, but neither will the poster's idea of using mail2web.

The only think that would work in your scenarios would be Sprint's Family Locator since it does not rely on software to be installed on the phone.
