Re: Remote Desktop

I tried using Finster too. I'm having problems connecting to my Vista machine, but it works fine for my XP machine. Anyone having any problems connecting to vista? I made sure to allow remote access

I also want to be able to vnc into my linux box. What VNC viewers do you guys use?

Are you sure your router is forwarding ports for both setups? What about your static IP?

Re: Remote Desktop

It shouldnt matter about port forwarding right? I was trying to remote desktop while inside of my network. But just in case I have port 3389 forwarding to my Vista machine.

Re: Remote Desktop

you need to enable port forwarding on your router for 3389 on the ip address assigned to your pc. then you need to enable remote desktop by right clicking my computer and going to properties.

Re: Remote Desktop

If the remote desktop port is unfirewalled, you should have no trouble connecting from anywhere. Even if behind a router, it'll work as long as you forward port 3389 and enable Remote Desktop (sometimes it only works after a reboot when first enabling).

You can also change the port it uses in the registry, but by default it's 3389.
