So what exactly does "turn off device if not used for" do? I have it set for 40 seconds while on internal power.

It means put your device into standby mode...

The problem (with the Apache at least) was that once it was in hibernated/standby mode it would not wake up,

I'm still a little confused as to what standby mode is. I have no problems with the phone locking up while on battery power. What does standby mode turn off?

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight

In theory, the reason why this would happen overnight is (my theory, could be totally wrong):

You hook the phone up to charge over night and set your alarm and go to sleep. The phone goes to standby after so long and is charging up. The phone is using such little power than the battery starts to warm a bit, it reaches full or almost full charge and gets so hot the phone locksup, unable to get out of standby when the alarm goes off. You wake up to a lockedup phone and the charge light frozen on.

... I could be totally off though :D

It doesn't happen while the phone is on the battery because your aren't pumping juice into it while its on standby. The battery can slowly power the phone on standby, keep it cooler.

come to think of it, i think my fone locked up on me while talking on the phone once. it was after my phone call so i tried to hit the hangup button, but my entire screen was already black and i couldnt do anything except do a soft reset.

Again, this could be a heat issue. There is a big thread about people mentioning being on a call for awhile and then the phone freezing.

I have been on a 45 min call and have not had it freeze. Only time mine randomly freezes is when it charges overnight :(

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight

I had this happen once or twice also. Observations:
1 - It happens while charging only.
2 - Not heat related because it happened once to me after the phone had been on the charger only a short while. Pulled it off, charge light still spinning, and phone totally locked up.
3 - Not related to additional programs and reg edits since someone has a gf with TP with no changes and had the problem.
4 - I have noticed at least once that I plug the phone in and the charging indication does not light up. I unplug and plug again to get it going.
5 - on Adv settings I have it set to 30sec, 2 min, 1 min, 15 min and that other setting (whatever it's called) I have set to "Never".

I think it is a charging / charger issue but sleep modes could play a part. I hope it gets fixed on the next Rev release. We need SP1 just like MS loves to do! :)

Agreed. The phone was never hot when it locked up on me.

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight

Last night my phone had 90% when I went to sleep. I left it on the night stand in standby and by morning time charge was down to 30%. As soon as I turned the screen on there was an error message that said something like "error dialing number bloddy bloddy bloddy *777" or it may have been *7777 I don't remember. I don't know why my phone would have been calling any numbers in the middle of the night without my knowledge. Incidentally, after I tried to Dismiss the error message, the phone locked and I had to reboot.

I bet some of you seeing these unexplainable battery losses overnight are having the same thing happen, it's just not giving the error that I got. I may have got the error because of a bad cell signal or something. Anyway, it's not the first time that I woke up to a discharged phone that went from full to empty while sitting in the nightstand in standby overnight.

But it will be the last time, as my BB Curve arrives today :headbang:
