Just to chime in. Happened to me twice so far. I'll try unchecking the today timeout and see where it gets me.

I think I may have found a solution for this. It's got to be an over-heating issue, because for the past 3 weeks I've charged mine overnight and it hasn't locked up...and before that it was freezing like every 5 nights. What I do is I take the battery cover off, open the keyboard, rest it on an angle and keep the screen on. It seems to be working so far! It just has to be overheating.

My touch pro is locking up and it is frustrating me. I have emailed the following to HTC tech support after speaking with an HTC rep on the phone today. I cannot believe this thread is so long and there is no resolution...

My phone is locking up sometimes while charging overnight as described in this post with multiple other people having the same problem. The d-pad ring light is lit and the phone only responds to a soft reset. I am a computer engineer and the reasoning given to me on the phone by an HTC rep today is not sufficient. IF the phone is overheating while charging, then htc has a bug to fix. IF Windows Mobile is locking up, then htc has a bug to fix. Basically, htc has a bug to fix. I would like a response to exactly what is causing this and what htc plans to do about it, in writing. Otherwise, I will spend my time submitting videos of my phone locked up to all the computer and tech magazines I can find until someone fixes my phone. Wishing I stayed with Samsung, Kevin

Terrible solution for such an expensive device.

There is no solution. This phone overheats all the time... while charging, while talking, while surfing...while getting bad reception--you name it.

The only solution is to return it and hope you get one that does not do this.

Or return it for another phone altogether. Most people on this forum are such hardcore, do-or-die Windows Mobile fans, that they can live with huge, crippling oversights on HTC's part. The fact that HTC denies everything and bastically says STFU and GTFO is pretty disheartening.

I'll be hard-pressed to ever buy another HTC product after this string of godawful quality control/design flaws...

Well, as one who has used both Palm and Windows Moble, I think it's less that people are do-or-die WM fans, and more that most folks realize that this phone has amazing features, and that no phone is perfect.

A more accurate statement might be "I'm glad that there are relatively few folks on these boards who waste hours and hours of their lives on trashing a phone that doesn't meet their needs, rather than simply buying one that they like." ;)

(Honestly, I could replace "HTC" with "Palm" and see this exact post on the treocentral boards...which is why I left there.)

For my own Touch Pro, this issue appears to be entirely battery-dependent.

With one battery that came with the Touch Pro, the device never locks up overnight. But when I switched to the second battery and left the device charging overnight, it locked up.

Here is my own solution I never charge my phone over night anymore. I will charge it right before I go to bed Then put it back on the charger when I wake up. I get ready for work and I have %100 charged phone before the time I'm ready to leave. Haven't had a lock up's since Oct 31.

I don't understand why some phones do this & others don't.

I have two TP's that are totally LOADED with programs/tweaks etc & the only time either one has locked up it was because of something stupid that I did that caused it (I have charged my everyday phone all night every night & since the beginning of November & it's never locked up once)

ScrapMaker...I agree it's a terrible solution for the cost of the product, but it's a solution none the less. My phone hasn't frozen in weeks...and while it sucks that I have to baby a really expensive phone...it's fixed for now. It works for me.

What if you drilled holes in the back cover? ;)
