Its Time for HTC/ Sprint to Fix the TP (you can't argue with Data)

After getting everything from great battery life to abysmal battery life I took a few moments, wrote a utility to document the battery usage, and have summarized it here.

While much of this information has been posted in another Thread, I am posting it here because I feel It is time that the community as a whole takes some action.

I am personally sending this information to HTC and Sprint Support. But If we stand any chance of getting HTC and Sprint to sit up and take notice, we need complaints like this to hit them in large numbers and WITH Data! I have always found it is difficult to argue with hard numbers!

I am Setting this up as a Poll. My Hopes that the Mods can extract a list of everyone that votes that they have a problem and that it requires Immediate Attention! So that this can also be sent to HTC/Sprint as an Informal Petition.

With Battery above 90%

13 mA Power Usage while asleep
47 mA Standby mode (screen off)
90 mA Power Usage Screen on Brightness @ 50%
180 mA Power Usage with Bluetooth Radio On
225 mA Power usage with Data Radio On
490 mA Power Usage with an Active Data Call (Rev. A)
498 mA Phone call
600 mA Phone call with BT headset
762 mA Phone call with BT HS, Data Radio On

With Battery Below 50%:

Average
Power

13 mA Power Usage while asleep
47 mA Standby mode screen off
90 mA Power Usage Screen on Brightness @ 50%
240 mA Power Usage with Bluetooth Radio On
295 mA Power usage with Data Radio On
550 mA Power Usage with an Active Data Call (Rev. A)
622 mA Phone call
802 mA Phone call with BT headset
990 mA Phone call with BT HS, Data Radio On

The battery Temperature corresponded very well with Current Draw (when allowed to equilibrate for several minutes):

Current Battery
Draw Temperature

90-150 mA 32.1 32.7
150 - 250 mA 32.7 - 33.2
250 - 350 mA 33.2 - 33.9
350 - 400 mA 34.0 - 34.5
500 - 600 mA 34.6 - 35.1
600 - 900 mA 35.2 - 35.8

The Battery Temperature while charging with a 1A charger (HTC Supplied) (regardless of whether the phone is being used or not) is around 29 degrees C.

So What does this all mean??

Well, Based on the FCC Documents for the Touch Pro (https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/...7NM8RAPH500%27) (They can be found in the "RF Exposure Info SAR PCE" report)

The MAXIMUM output of the CDMA Radios is 0.29W (yes that is 0.29 watts)

So Why does the the touch pro use:

1,80 - 2.05 W to transmit data
1.85 - 2.35 W to transmit voice

when power output is 0.290W maximum???

Yes, I know there are always inefficenies in tranmitters, but please 13% efficiency is that the best we can do! (and anyone who has used one of these knows that most of that energy is being used to generate heat! If nothing else it makes a good handwarmer )

IMHO, HTC has some issues with the software that is driving the ARM6 transmitter processor, that they either don't know how to fix, or don't want to bother with.

I have called sprint to complain and they say they have gotten no complaints about anything regarding this phone. then again this was retention so I am sure if they told me it could cause me to cancel or return the phone I guess

"The MAXIMUM output of the CDMA Radios is 0.29W (yes that is 0.29 watts)"

What are you trying to say here, is it illegal for the pro to be sold here with this stat?

I thought i read that sprint tweaks with the radios of their phones to poll more, im not sure if its true though.

Im with you if this means the pro will be a better phone!

0.29 W is perfectly legal, What I am saying is it makes no sense for the phone to use 2W of power to produce 0.29W of engergy to transmit... Sure wouldn't get an energy star rating

My Touch Pro is a rock solid device I have not had any of the issues with power or battery life that you are talking about. I have closed this thread it contains redundant information there are other threads that this information can be added to

What planet did your touch pro come from?

And the rule is that it can only use up .29 W of power on average during FCC testing... just to clarify. So theoretically abberations or bad software changes after testing don't make it illegal or questionable... they just mean that HTC/Sprint R LAZY NUBS LOL
